В статье собраны сведения о предметах христианского культа из известного святилища Реком в Цейском ущелье горной Осетии. В сообщениях путешественников и ученых, других источниках XIX – начала XX в. мы встречаем многочисленные упоминания данной категории вещей, хранившихся в самом почитаемом осетинском святилище. В музейных коллекциях также имеются христианские реликвии из Рекома. Они свидетельствуют о почитании святилища как приверженцами традиционных верований, так и осетинами-христианами. Факт одновременного нахождения в Рекоме традиционных культовых подношений и христианских предметов говорит о веротерпимости осетин и исключительном сакральном значении Рекома. This article contains information about the objects of Christian worship from the famous Rekom sanctuary in the Tsei gorge of mountain Ossetia. In the messages of travelers and scientists, other sources of the XIX - early XX centuries we find numerous references to this category of things were kept in Rekom - the most revered Ossetian sanctuary. There are also Christian relics from Rekom in the museums’ collections. They testify to the veneration of the sanctuary by both adherents of traditional beliefs and Ossetian Christians. The fact of the simultaneous presence of traditional religious offerings and Christian objects in the Rekom speaks of the religious tolerance of the Ossetians and the exclusive sacred significance of Rekom.

SummaryIt was found that the effect of heparin on the amidase activity of urokinase (E C 3.4.21.31), plasmin (E C 3.4.21.7) and trypsin (E C 3.4.21.4) depended on the substrate used. No effect of heparin on the amidase activity of urokinase and trypsin was observed when Pyro Glu-Gly-Arg-p-nitroanilide (S-2444) and α-N-acetyl-L-lysine-p-nitroanilide (ALNA) were used as substrates. Heparin acted as a uncompetitive inhibitor of trypsin (Ki = 1.2×10-6 M), plasmin (Ki = 4.9×10-6 M) and urokinase (Ki = l.0×10-7 M) when Bz-Phe-Val-Arg-p-nitroanilide (S-2160), H-D-Val-Leu-Lys-p-nitroanilide (S-2251) and plasminogen, respectively, were used as substrates. These results, as well as the data obtained by studying the effect of the simultaneous presence of heparin and competitive inhibitors suggest that although heparin is not bound at the active center of these enzymes, it may influence the effectivity of catalysis.

This paper discusses a worship service I designed and led in November of 2014 at Andover Newton Theological School (ANTS). As a member of the faculty, a practicing Christian and a religious educator and interfaith organizer, I am invited to lead a service each year in the Chapel at ANTS. In particular, as the ANTS’ co-director of the Center for Interreligious and Communal Leadership Education (CIRCLE), a joint program between ANTS and Hebrew College, I was charged with making the service an “interfaith” gathering, open and inviting for Unitarian Universalist, Muslim, and Jewish guests, while still providing an authentic expression of Christian worship. This article offers a first-person narrative and thick description of the service, the planning process, the broader context of interreligious education at our schools, and reflections on both the possibilities and limits of sharing particular religious rituals across diverse religious traditions for educational purposes. Drawing on the work of interreligious educators I identify a set of goals for interreligious education and explore the potential for religious ritual to both contribute to and complicate these goals. I describe the worship service as a ritual event in the life of a Christian seminary as well as its meaning and role in the process of interreligious coformation that is part of CIRCLE’s work.

In recent years, North American and European nations have sought to legally remake religion in other countries through an unprecedented array of international initiatives. Policymakers have rallied around the notion that the fostering of religious freedom, interfaith dialogue, religious tolerance, and protections for religious minorities are the keys to combating persecution and discrimination. This book argues that these initiatives create the very social tensions and divisions they are meant to overcome. It looks at three critical channels of state-sponsored intervention: international religious freedom advocacy, development assistance and nation building, and international law. It shows how these initiatives make religious difference a matter of law, resulting in a divide that favors forms of religion authorized by those in power and excludes other ways of being and belonging. In exploring the dizzying power dynamics and blurred boundaries that characterize relations between “expert religion,” “governed religion,” and “lived religion,” the book charts new territory in the study of religion in global politics. The book provides new insights into today's most pressing dilemmas of power, difference, and governance.

This report presents current research on aboriginal activity centers in Taidong County, Taiwan, primarily in the townships of Chishang and Yanping with over 30% of the population being of aboriginal ancestry. Taidong County is the region with the most distinctive aboriginal communities in Taiwan. The research attempts to identify the actors behind the operation of such centers and their significance for aboriginal communities. The research investigates the process of selecting suitable location for the facilities, the specific features of such centers, the potential religious significance of the locations including the role of traditional beliefs in predominantly Christian aboriginal communities, the symbolic value of structures built in the traditional style for construction of ethnicity and financing that enables the construction of the facilities and the organization of the festivities held in them. The principle research method used was interviews with local actors including local representatives, organizers of festivities, as well as members of local communities. The research began in 2017.
