Background: Questions remain on the quality of malaria and HIV Rapid Diagnostic Test kits (RDTs) stocked and used in health facilities in Ghana. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana is mandated to regulate RDTs for quality. By this, all RDTs must be registered, and each brand given a unique registration number. This study aimed to assess the quality of malaria and HIV RDTs in health facilities in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, using FDA standards. Method: Data was obtained using structured questionnaire from 400 facilities in three districts in the Greater Accra region. A multi-stage sampling procedure was used to select the health facilities including retail medicine outlets. Information on the registration status of the RDTs and conditions under which they were stored were gathered. RDTs kept in air conditioned or well-ventilated rooms were considered as being stored under good condition. RDTs, registered by the FDA and appropriately stored were considered to be of good quality. Data was coded, stored, and analyzed using STATA version 15. Results: About 17% of the malaria RDTs stocked in the pharmacies were unregistered, 85.7% in hospitals were registered. Also, 83.3% of HIV RDTs in the Policlinics were registered. Registration status of the RDTs were associated with the districts in which the health facilities were located (p = 0.006). The RDTs were generally stored under good conditions (99.5%). Over forty percent (41.9%) of user practitioners interviewed rated the quality of the malaria RDTs as good and 59.2% rated HIV RDTs as very good. Conclusion: Though there were some unregistered RDTs whose quality cannot be ascertained, the quality of malaria and HIV RDTs in the facilities assessed were rated as good and likely to produce good results for malaria and HIV case detection.

Abstract Background: Despite the improvements in the knowledge and understanding of the role of health information in the global health system, the quality of data generated by a routine health information system is still very poor in low and middle-income countries. There is a paucity of studies as to what determines data quality in health facilities in the study area. Therefore, this study was aimed to assess the quality of routine health information system data and associated factors in public health facilities of Harari region, Ethiopia.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in all public health facilities in Harari region of Ethiopia. The department-level data were collected from respective department heads through document reviews, interviews, and observation check-lists. Descriptive statistics were used to data quality and multivariate logistic regression was run to identify factors influencing data quality. The level of significance was declared at P-value <0.05. Result: The study found a good quality data in 51.35% (95% CI, 44.6-58.1) of the departments in public health facilities in Harari Region. Departments found in the health centers were 2.5 times more likely to have good quality data as compared to departments found in the health posts. The presence of trained staffs able to fill reporting formats (AOR=2.474; 95%CI: 1.124-5.445) and provision of feedback (AOR=3.083; 95%CI: 1.549-6.135) were also significantly associated with data quality. Conclusion: The level of good data quality in the public health facilities was less than the expected national level. Training should be provided to increase the knowledge and skills of the health workers.

Abstract Background Ghana has adopted the policy of diagnostically testing for malaria before treatment. The Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) is used to diagnose malaria especially in lower health facilities like Health Centers (HC) and Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compounds without microscopy. Studies have shown that clinicians do not always adhere to negative malaria test results of the RDT and prescribe anti-malarials. Methods Quantitative aspect focused on how malaria is diagnosed and adherence to negative rapid diagnostic test results using the consulting room register and patients’ folder of six health facilities within the period of July to September 2015. In-depth interviews using purposive sampling was conducted for 14 health workers at Health Centers and CHPS compounds to find out their perceptions about malaria RDT and reasons for adherence or non-adherence to test results.Results Of the six health facilities in the Agona East District, 3.87% (14/362) were presumptively diagnosed with malaria whiles 96.10% (348/362) were diagnosed with malaria using RDT.For those tested with RDT, 15.25% tested negative and 84.75% tested positive. Of those who tested negative, 20.75% were given anti-malarials and 79.25% did not receive anti-malarials. Health workers perceived the Malaria RDT kit as easy to use and also as making work easier. Testing is done mainly because it is a policy. Conclusion The malaria testing rate in the Agona East District is higher than that at the National level. Health Centers compared to CHPS compounds are likely to treat for malaria in cases of a negative test result. There is also high adherence to negative test results. Health workers perceive the RDT as a useful tool which has made malaria diagnosis easy.

IntroductionRapid urbanisation in Dar es Salaam, the main commercial hub in Tanzania, has resulted in congested health facilities, poor quality care, and unacceptably high facility-based maternal and perinatal mortality. Using a participatory approach, the Dar es Salaam regional government in partnership with a non-governmental organisation, Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania, implemented a complex, dynamic intervention to improve the quality of care and survival during pregnancy and childbirth. The intervention was rolled out in 22 public health facilities, accounting for 60% of the city’s facility births.MethodsMultiple intervention components addressed gaps across the maternal and perinatal continuum of care (training, infrastructure, routine data quality strengthening and utilisation). Quality of care was measured with the Standards-Based Management and Recognition tool. Temporal trends from 2011 to 2019 in routinely collected, high-quality data on facility utilisation and facility-based maternal and perinatal mortality were analysed.ResultsSignificant improvements were observed in the 22 health facilities: 41% decongestion in the three most overcrowded hospitals and comparable increase in use of lower level facilities, sixfold increase in quality of care, and overall reductions in facility-based maternal mortality ratio (47%) and stillbirth rate (19%).ConclusionsThis collaborative, multipartner, multilevel real-world implementation, led by the local government, leveraged structures in place to strengthen the urban health system and was sustained through a decade. As depicted in the theory of change, it is highly plausible that this complex intervention with the mediators and confounders contributed to improved distribution of workload, quality of maternity care and survival at birth.

The quality of river water is strongly related to human activities in it. Changesin the condition of water quality in the river flow are the effects of the dischargefrom existing land use. One of them is sand mining activities along the SerayuRiver, especially around Tumiyang, Kebasen, Banyumas Regency. Activitiesfrom sand mining will cause a decrease in river water quality. From this activity,it is necessary to study the status of water quality using the STORET method todetermine the quality of river water so that the river can be utilized in accordancewith the applicable designation.The STORET method is one method for determining water quality data withwater quality standards in accordance with the appointment of Minister ofEnvironment Decree No.115 2003. This research is a quantitative descriptivestudy to determine the water quality of the Serayu river in the sand of miningareas precisely in Banyumas Regency. The parameters measured in this studywere measurements of Total Disolved Solid (TDS), temperature, pH, andElectrical Conductivity. Determining the location of taking water using apurposive sampling method.Based on the results of data analysis using the Storet method and refers to thequality standards of Government Regulation No.20 of 1990 Group D. Waterquality in Serayu River has a total score of 9 after sand mining. This shows thequality status of the lightly polluted Serayu river (-1 to -10). But still in class Band the river water quality level is still in good condition. There are temperatureparameters that exceed the threshold of 25 - 32oC, but the TDS, DHL and pHparameters are still within the threshold of designation in Group D.

Several brands of malaria RDTs were analyzed and their signals quantitated. It was found that a simple sample processing step enhanced the limits of detection by at least 4-fold.

Lack of trained personnel able to fill the reporting format and feedback were the factors that are found to be affecting data quality. Therefore, training should be provided to increase the knowledge and skills of the health workers. Regular supportive supervision and feedback should also be maintained.
