In 1989, Brewer and Nash (BN) proposed the Chinese Wall Security Policy (CWSP). Intuitively speaking, they want to build a family of impenetrable walls, called Chinese walls, among the datasets of competing companies so that no datasets that are in conflict can be stored in the same side of Chinese walls. Technically, the idea is: (X, Y) Ï CIR (= the binary relation of conflict of interests) if and only if (X, Y) Ï CIF (= the binary relation of information flows). Unfortunately, BN’s original proof has a major flaw (Lin, 1989). In this chapter, we have established and generalized the idea using an emerging technology, granular computing.

Despite many recent attempts to settle the dispute concerning the absolute date of the Minoan Santorini eruption, there are still differences between some archaeologists and scientists on the absolute dates and the reliability of radiocarbon dating. The recent publication of over 200 new 14C dates for dynastic Egypt rules out a major flaw in the historical chronology of Egypt and proves the reliability of 14C dating in the Nile Valley. Therefore, the student of Aegean archaeology and eastern Mediterranean interconnections is still confronted with an archaeologically based conventional, or “low,” chronology and a 14C-backed “high” chronology. New 14C determinations from different sites of the Aegean support the high chronology for the Late Minoan (LM) IA, while recent re-evaluation of LM IB determinations are slightly higher but more or less in agreement with archaeological estimations. The present contribution reviews archaeological and scientific data for the LM IA period and argues that a reduced (∼30 to 50 yr) offset between archaeological and 14C dates for the Minoan Santorini eruption may be possible, thus offering new perspectives for potential solutions for this problem.

Dr. Myers challenges the legitimacy of the traditional concept of the “just war,” revived during the Vietnam War and with the publication of Michael Walzer'sJust and Unjust Warsin 1977. The doctrine's major flaw, says Myers, is that it allows self-interested interpretation in a world of sovereign states - “Whose justice are we talking about?” he asks. Myers nonetheless validates the theory's intention and its utility in coping with war

Abstract We point out a major flaw in the so-called conformable calculus. We demonstrate why it fails at defining a fractional order derivative and where exactly these tempting conformability properties come from.

The new French documentary Les Salafistes (The Salafis) that premieredJanuary 26, 2016, in a small number of French theaters offersiconographic imagery seldom seen in the public space: a stringof interviews with some of the leading jihadist militants in Mali,Tunisia, Algeria, and Iraq coupled with ghastly images of violenceperpetrated by militant groups. The intention appears to be to showthe irrationality of and paradox in the jihadis’ discourse and actions.Unfortunately, the directors have succeeded only in reproducing alreadyexisting stereotypes of Salafis. The lack of any appropriatecontextualization that problematizes the recent rise of violence inthe Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is perhaps thefilm’s major flaw. Despite the directors’ ambition to let violent extremistsdiscredit their own project, the documentary presents anessentialist argument that reproduces Orientalist imageries of a savagereligion. Without the appropriate commentary and backgroundoverview to the conflicts featured in the film, the audiences are leftalone with an extremist narrative that confirms the evocations ofthe West’s moral, cultural, and political superiority over the East.

Clinicians are beginning to understand the importance of quantification for use in medicine, particularly nuclear medicine. With the recent introduction of mandates by CMS, ASNC, and the SNMMI for quantification, it is not surprising that professional papers are beginning to be published on the topic. One recent publication paper by Zhao et al. demonstrates the misunderstanding that is plaguing the field of modern nuclear medicine. The second publication by Dorbala et al. discusses a major flaw in the current understanding of redistribution measurements of isotopes such as Sestamibi and Tetrofsomin
