Social media empowers small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in engaging with their stakeholders economically and effectively. Social media use affects SMEs operation and knowledge sharing which creates innovation opportunities, speeds time to market, satisfies firm's customers, and improves business performance. Current research aims to explore the impact of social media use on the market entry agility, product innovativeness, reducing the market entry time for the SME and improving the firm performance. Cross-sectional survey-based data was collected from the jewelry crafting SMEs in Bali, Indonesia. The data was analyzed with the covariance-based statistical analysis technique with the SPSS based AMOS 23. The study results identify that social media use and market entry agility significantly impact firm performance. However, product innovativeness insignificantly influences firm performance. Furthermore, the market entry agility mediates for the firm performance so, SMEs need to leverage social media use, and market entry agility enables the dynamic capacity to enhance firm performance. Firms’ level innovativeness capability should be considered as a mediating role but should support another variable to leverage firm performance. The study limitation and future research options are reported at the end.

We examined the impact of social media use on employee innovative performance, and the psychological mechanism underlying this relationship. Our hypothesis was that social media use would have a positive influence on employee innovative performance and that work engagement would act as a mediator in this relationship. We employed structural equation modeling to investigate this mediating role with 298 employees of a large enterprise in China. Results of a time-lagged survey showed that both social media use and work engagement were significantly correlated with innovative performance, and work engagement partially mediated the social media use–innovative performance relationship. These findings shed light on how social media use affects employee innovative performance. Theoretical and practical implications and directions for future research are discussed.

The present article proposes and validates a general model that studies the impact of social CRM on firm performance. The social media use is introduced as a moderating variable. Innovation performance and customer engagement are also introduced as mediating variables to make the model more integrative and comprehensive. For model validation purposes, a quantitative research was undertaken. An online survey was conducted. 195 responses were collected and a partial least squares analysis was used to test hypothesis and validate the research model. Results have shown mainly that social CRM has a positive direct impact on innovation performance and customer engagement. However, and surprisingly, customer engagement has shown no effect on the firm performance. In the same line, and contrary to our expectations, Social CRM did not show a causal and direct effect on firm performance; however, this effect was shown to be positively moderated by social media use. In this exploratory study, higher education faculty perceptions regarding acceptability of social media use for out-of-class student engagement are identified. Hypotheses are developed and tested using a survey to address the impact of factors such as awareness, faculty/student relationship status, gender, academic discipline, and rank on faculty attitudes toward out-of-class social media use for student engagement. Findings indicate that faculty members are aware of social media, but use varies. Overall, they do not view social media as an important part of out-of-class engagement, but it is viewed as more acceptable for engagement with former students. In addition, faculty from Marketing and Communications disciplines and Associate/Full Professors perceive social media use to be more acceptable for student engagement when compared with their colleagues from other disciplines and lower ranks. Implications and conclusions are discussed for development of university social media usage policies and directions for future research.

PurposeThis study is a systematic literature review (SLR) on prior research examining the impact of the nocturnal use of social media platforms on a user's sleep, its dimensions and its perceptually allied problems. This SLR aims to curate, assimilate and critically examine the empirical research in this domain.Design/methodology/approachForty-five relevant studies identified from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases were analyzed to develop a comprehensive research profile, identify gaps in the current knowledge and delineate emergent research topics.FindingsPrior research has narrowly focused on investigating the associations between specific aspects of social media use behavior and sleep dimensions. The findings suggest that previous studies are limited by research design and sampling issues. We highlight the imperative need to expand current research boundaries through a comprehensive framework that elucidates potential issues to be addressed in future research.Originality/valueThe findings have significant implications for clinicians, family members and educators concerning promoting appropriate social media use, especially during sleep latency.

PurposeThe aim of this paper is to investigate how social media use (SMU) affects the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and entrepreneurial opportunities (EOP) of start-ups.Design/methodology/approachThe hypothesis testing and analysis were conducted using the partial least squares approach to structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe research shows that SMU has a strong positive impact on EOP, while it has no impact on start-ups' EO. Interestingly, the impact of SMU on EOP is stronger than the impact of EO on EOP.Originality/valueThe findings add new knowledge to the emerging research stream that focuses on SMU in the context of entrepreneurship and provides useful insights for both scholars and practitioners. In particular, the evidence suggests implications for stakeholders with regard to their firms' entrepreneurial activities. This research offers several possible avenues for future research.

The widespread use of social media has promoted extensive academic research on this channel. The present study conducts a systematic analysis of extant research on social media use among young people in China. This systematic literature review aims to identify and bridge gaps in topics, theories, variables, and conceptual frameworks in studies of social media usage among young people in China. The study aims to develop a cause–effect framework that shows the causal relationships among research structures. The PRISMA method is used to review 20 articles drawn from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. From the analysis, 10 major research topics, eight theories or models, and a complete framework of causal relations emerge. It is recommended that future research on social media should include a greater diversity of types of social media, investigate a wider range of research topics, and adopt different theories or models. Researchers should also implement a more complete and detailed systematic method for reviewing literature on social media research in China.

Purpose The purpose of this exploratory study is to examine individual perceptions about the impact that social media use has on career satisfaction and perceived career benefits. We examined whether informal online learning through “typical” types of social media behaviors (e.g. liking a post or messaging another user) and “networking” types of social media behaviors (e.g. endorsing another user, writing recommendations, going “live,” or looking for a job) impacted career-related perceptions. Design/methodology/approach In this study, we analyzed Amazon Mechanical Turk survey data gathered from adult participants (n = 475). We focused our inquiry specifically on two social media sites, Facebook and LinkedIn. We asked participants about their social media use and behaviors, as well as their perceptions of career satisfaction and career benefits related to social media. Findings We found that both typical and networking types of social media behaviors positively predicted the “knowing whom” career competency (defined as career relevant networks and contacts that individuals use to develop their careers) and career satisfaction. Only networking behaviors were positively associated with perceived career benefits of social media use. We further found that LinkedIn users’ career satisfaction was lower compared to non-LinkedIn users. Originality/value This study adds to the small, but growing body of career research focusing on social capital and social media. Our results suggest that informal online learning via social media may have a positive impact on employees’ career-related perceptions.
