My Writing is a tool that preschool children can use to improve their reading and writing skills, which can be used both at school and at home. This tool was developed based on the Language Experience Approach (LEA) and is in the form of an Android application designed for children. It is used to help children understand that the spoken language can be altered into the written one and still retains its meaning. 10 teachers were included in this study and data were collected from teacher opinions and assessments. The findings showed that My Writing is an effective application for developing literacy in young children, and that it is easy to use by children and parents, making it simple for teachers to assess children’s literacy skills while they study at home. This study aims to describe the implementation of online learning that is applied today, and to develop a blended learning model as a strategy to provide student services according to the diversity of potential, needs, interests, and learning speeds. This study used research and development design. Several stages were carried out, namely, conducting literature studies, planning, organizing, mapping basic competencies, carrying out learning activities, reporting, and dissemination. The preliminary research samples included 10,466 students, and the samples for the blended learning model trial included 144 students through random sampling. The results showed that many students were happy to study at home, whereas others were happy to study at school. The facilities to support online learning at home were sufficient. The online learning presented by the teachers was quite interesting and most parents support it. Based on these findings, a blended learning model was developed. The results of the model trial show that blended learning is very useful and there is a significant increase in student learning outcomes. The blended learning model is very effective at supporting online learning. It can provide optimal services to students according to their talents, interests, and abilities. For that, a special strategy is needed and the cooperation of all the elements of the school. The development of an IT-based management system is very helpful in monitoring the progress of students and increasing the awareness of teachers and parents in overseeing the success of learning. The blended learning model in high school can be one of the models for schools that implement a semester credit system.

The Mathematics Modelling and Tools (MMT) e-learning system is a platform used for supporting lectures and tutoring at the Vienna University and Technology. Additionally to traditional e-learning properties like up- and download of lecture notes, videos and slides the MMT system provides the surface for a virtual modelling and simulation laboratory. Very powerful calculation software like MATLAB, Java or Octave, running in behind, allows experimenting with targeted modelling and simulation examples prepared and developed by experts. These are first of all used to support the presentation directly at the lecture and can afterwards be accessed by students given a password at home. As especially MATLAB also allows development of suitable examples dealing with mathematics, so far about ten percent of all examples treat this specific topic and are used in math lectures. It showed that especially the live experience fiddling on pre-implemented examples poses a big improvement for lectures.

Children have a right both to read and to see their lives mirrored in books. In this study we explored young Papua New Guinean children’s reading preferences of 500 digital books. The books were created as part of a large project aimed at improving elementary (Preparatory to Year 2) children’s literacy skills in Papua New Guinea. Reading materials are scarce in Papua New Guinea and typically offer children windows into other contexts. This was addressed through a collaborative approach with Papua New Guinean and international writers to develop culturally relevant books. Dashboard data from the digital library showing the 25 Most Read Books were collected from 321 girls and 369 boys in 7 pilot schools. The findings indicated that the children preferred fiction books that were culturally specific. There were no statistically significant gender differences in book choice. The findings from this study can help education departments and non-government organisations in the further development of children’s books that will motivate children to read.
