This paper presents the implementation of an agent-based architecture suitable for the coordination of power electronic converters in stand-alone microgrids. To this end, a publish-subscribe agent architecture was utilized as a distributed microgrid control platform. Over a distributed hash table (DHT) searching overlay, the publish-subscribe architecture was identified based on a numerical analysis as a scalable agent-based technology for the distributed real-time coordination of power converters in microgrids. The developed framework was set up to deploy power-sharing distributed optimization algorithms while keeping a deterministic time period of a few tens of milliseconds for a system with tens of converters and when multiple events might happen concurrently. Several agents participate in supervisory control to regulate optimum power-sharing for the converters. To test the design, a notional shipboard system, including several converters, was used as a case study. Results of implementing the agent-based publish-subscribe control system using the Java Agent Development Framework (JADE) are presented.

In this article, has been developed a software agent based on meta-heuristics and artificial neural networks. The analysis of existing classes of agents and the selected reactive agent with internal state, which is well suited for partially observable, dynamic and non-episodic media, was carried out, and this agent has an internal state that preserves the state of the environment, obtained on the basis of the history of acts of perception, in the form of structured data. Were proposed approaches to create an agent based on meta-heuristics and an agent based on an artificial neural network. The development of reactive agents with internal state, based on the PSO (particle swarm optimization) metaheuristics, which are related to individual particles and to a whole swarm and interact by messages was proposed. Also, has been proposed an approach to the creation of a reactive agent with an internal state based on the Elman recurrent neural network. The agent-based approach allows combining different areas of artificial intelligence, digital signal processing, mathematical modeling, and game theory. The proposed agents were implemented using the JADE (Java Agent Development Framework) toolkit, which is one of the most popular tools for the creation of agent systems. A numerical study was made to determine the parameters of the swarm PSO metaheuristics and the Elman recurrent neural network. As a purpose function, the Rastrigin test function has been used. The number of visits to the website of DonNTU was used as an input sample for the Elman network. The minimum average square error forecast was the criterion for choosing the structure of a network model. 10 hiding neurons were used to predict the number of visits to the website page, since, with increasing of hidden neurons number, the change in the error value is small. To determine the number of particles in the swarm, a series of experiments was conducted, the results of which are presented by graphs. The proposed approaches can be used in intelligent computer systems.

Load-Balancing is an important problem in distributed heterogeneous systems. In this paper, an Agent-based load-balancing model is developed for implementation in a grid environment. Load balancing is realized via migration of worker agents from overloaded resources to underloaded ones. The proposed model purposes to take benefit of the multi-agent system characteristics to create an autonomous system. The Agent-based load balancing model is implemented using JADE (Java Agent Development Framework) and Alea 2 as a grid simulator. The use of MAS is discussed, concerning the solutions adopted for gathering information policy, location policy, selection policy, worker agents migration, and load balancing.

The current pandemic has tested systems in place as to how to fight infectious diseases in many countries. COVID-19 spreads quickly and is deadly. However, it can be controlled through different measures such as physical distancing. The current project examines through simulation model of the UCF Global building the potential spread of an infectious disease via AnyLogic Personal Learning Edition (PLE) 8.7.0 on a laptop running Windows 10. The goal is to determine the environmental and interpersonal factors that could be modified to reduce risk of illness while maintaining typical business operations. Multiple experiments were ran to see when there is a potential change in infection and spread rate. Results show that increases occur with density between 400 and 500. To curtail the spread it is therefore important to limit contact through physical distancing for it has been proven an effective measure for reducing the spread of viral infections.

Originally a development methodology targeted at object technology, the OPEN Process Framework (OPF) is found to be a successful basis for extensions that support agent-oriented software development. Here we describe the process components necessary to agent-oriented support and illustrate the extensions by means of two small case studies that illustrate the extensions by means of two small case studies that illustrate both task-driven processes and goal-driven processes. The additional process components for Tasks and Techniques are all generated from the OPF’s metamodel, which gives the OPF its flexibility and tailorability to a wide variety of situations—here agent-orientation.
