On a sub-Riemannian manifold of contact type a connection  with torsion is considered, called in the work a Ψ-connection. A Ψ- connection is a particular case of an N-connection. On a sub-Riemannian manifold, a Ψ-connection is defined up to an endomorphism  :DD of a distribution D, this endomorphism is called in the work the structure endomorphism. The endomorphism ψ is uniquely defined by the following relations:  0,   (x, y)  g( x, y), x, yD. If the distribution of a sub-Riemannian manifold is integrable, then the Ψ-connection is of the class of the quarter-symmetric connections. It is proved that the Ψ- connection is a metric connection if and only if the structure vector field of the sub-Riemannian structure is integrable. A formula expressing the Ψ-connections in terms of the Levi-Civita connection of the sub- Riemannian manifold is obtained. The components of the curvature tensors and the Ricci-tensors of the Ψ-connection and of the Levi-Civita connection are computed. It is proved that if a sub-Riemannian manifold is an η-Einstein manifold, then it is also an η-Einstein manifold with respect to the Ψ-connection. The converse holds true only under the condition that the trace of the structure endomorphism Ψ is a constant not depending on a point of the manifold. The paper is completed by the theorem stating that a Sasaki manifold is an η-Einstein manifold if and only if M is an η-Einstein manifold with respect to the Ψ-connection.

On a pseudo-Riemannian manifold (M, g) we consider ∇ the Levi-Cività connection associated to metric g and a function f : M → ℝ whose pseudo-Riemannian Hessian [Formula: see text] is non-degenerate and with constant signature. We study properties of the pseudo-Riemannian manifold (M, h), [Formula: see text] in terms of local computation. Investigating the conditions for existence of the equal connections [Formula: see text], produced by g and h, we determine classes of explicit Ricci flat gradient solitons for some particular forms of g, arising from remarkable physics models.

The paper deals with the study of Casorati curvature of submanifolds of generalized [Formula: see text]-space-form with respect to Levi-Civita connection as well as semisymmetric metric connection and derived two optimal inequalities between scalar curvature and Casorati curvature of such space forms. The equality cases are also considered.

A Kenmotsu manifold with a given N-connection is considered. From the integrability of the distribution of a Kenmotsu manifold it follows that the N-connection belongs to the class of the quarter-symmetric connections. Among the N-connections, the class of connections adapted to the structure of the Kenmotsu manifold is specified. In particular, it is proved that an N-connection preserves the structure endomorphism φ of the Kenmotsu manifold if and only if the endomorphisms N and φ commute. A formula expressing the N-connection in terms of the Levi-Civita connection is obtained. The Chrystoffel symbols of the Levi-Civita connection and of the N-connection of the Kenmotsu manifold with respect to the adapted coordinates are computed. The properties of the invariants of the interior geometry of the Kenmotsu manifolds are investigated. The invariants of the interior geometry are the following: the Schouten curvature tensor; the 1-form  defining the distribution D; the Lie derivative 0   L g of the metric tensor g along the vector field ;  the tensor field P with the components given with respect to the adapted coordinate system by the formula Pacd  ncad . The field P is called in the work the Schouten — Wagner tensor. It is proved that the Schouten — Wagner tensor of the interior connection of the Kenmotsu manifold is zero. The conditions that satisfies the endomorphism N defining the metric N-connection are found. At the end of the work, an example of a Kenmotsu manifold with a metric N-connection preserving the structure endomorphism φ is given.

Papers of many mathematicians are devoted to the study of semisymmetric connections or metric connections with vector torsion on Riemannian manifolds. This type of connectivity is one of the three main types discovered by E. Cartan and finds its application in modern physics, geometry, and topology of manifolds. Geodesic lines and the curvature tensor of a given connection were studied by I. Agricola, K. Yano, and other mathematicians. In particular, K. Yano proved an important theorem on the connection of conformal deformations and metric connections with vector torsion. Namely: a Riemannian manifold admits a metric connection with vector torsion and the curvature tensor being equal to zero if and only if it is conformally flat. Although the curvature tensor of a hemisymmetric connection has a smaller number of symmetries compared to the Levi-Civita connection, it is still possible to define the concept of sectional curvature in this case. The question naturally arises about the difference between the sectional curvature of a semisymmetric connection and the sectional curvature of a Levi-Civita connection. This paper is devoted to the study of this issue, and the authors find the necessary and sufficient conditions for the sectional curvature of the semisymmetric connection to coincide with the sectional curvature of the Levi-Civita connection. Non-trivial examples of hemisymmetric connections are constructed when possible.

The paper deals with the study on conservative C-Bochner curvature tensor in K-contact and Kenmotsu manifolds admitting semisymmetric metric connection, and it is shown that these manifolds are η-Einstein with respect to Levi-Civita connection, and the results are illustrated with examples.

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to extend for the m-quasi-Einstein metrics some integral formulae obtained in [1] (C. Aquino, A. Barros and E. Ribeiro Jr., Some applications of the Hodge-de Rham decomposition to Ricci solitons, Results Math. 60 (2011), 245–254) for Ricci solitons and derive similar results achieved there. Moreover, we shall extend the m-Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor for a vector field X on a Riemannian manifold instead of a gradient field ∇f, in order to obtain some results concerning these manifolds that generalize their correspondents to a gradient field.

The present paper deals with the study of totally real submanifolds and C-totally real submanifolds of (LCS)n-manifolds withrespect to Levi-Civita connection as well as quarter symmetric metric connection. It is proved that scalar curvature of C-totally real submanifolds of (LCS)n-manifold with respect to both the said connections are same.

Let E be the loop space over a compact connected Riemannian manifold with a torsion skew symmetric (TSS) connection. Let L be the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck (O-U) operator on the loop space E, and f be a cylinder function on E. We first extend the expression of Lf, proved by Enchev and Stroock for the Levi–Cività connection, to a general TSS connection, and then prove that if [Formula: see text], ε |Lf|2 is exponential integrable for some constant ε := ε (f)>0.

A Riemannian manifold endowed with k>2 orthogonal complementary distributions (called here an almost multi-product structure) appears in such topics as multiply twisted or warped products and the webs or nets composed of orthogonal foliations. In this article, we define the mixed scalar curvature of an almost multi-product structure endowed with a linear connection, and represent this kind of curvature using fundamental tensors of distributions and the divergence of a geometrically interesting vector field. Using this formula, we prove decomposition and non-existence theorems and integral formulas that generalize results (for k=2) on almost product manifolds with the Levi-Civita connection. Some of our results are illustrated by examples with statistical and semi-symmetric connections.

AbstractWe study the volume of compact Riemannian manifolds which are Einstein with respect to a metric connection with (parallel) skew-torsion. We provide a result for the sign of the first variation of the volume in terms of the corresponding scalar curvature. This generalizes a result of M. Ville [15] related with the first variation of the volume on a compact Einstein manifold.
