Opening an underground mine or part of it presents complex and responsible issue, which affects the economy and effectiveness of the mine operation. This paper presents a methodology for selecting the optimal variant for opening, the lead-zinc ore mine Toranica, Macedonia. Six variants of opening and haulage of ore and waste rocks in the deeper parts of the ore deposit have been considered. After the performed analysis, the optimal variant for opening and haulage for the Toranica mine was determined.

The article discusses the results of technological studies on the concentration of polymetallic ore of the Chinarsay deposit. The results of studies of the material composition and flotation concentration options for technological samples of ore from the Chinarsay deposit are presented. The results of studying the material composition of ore based on spectral, chemical and rational analysis are presented. It has been established that industrially valuable ore components are lead, zinc and copper, the contents of which are given. It was shown that ore minerals are in close intergrowth with non-metallic ones - quartz, sericite, chlorite, carbonate, etc. It is noted that the studies were carried out in two directions: collective flotation of all ore minerals with further selection of the collective concentrate into lead, zinc, copper and pyrite concentrates and direct collective selective flotation to produce sequentially lead-copper, zinc and pyrite concentrates. As a result of enrichment, lead, zinc and copper concentrates are selected that meet the production requirements.

The characteristics of process mineralogy of the some lead-zinc mine were studied with scanning electron microscope, optics microscopes, and x-ray diffraction. The species of lead minerals and zinc minerals and the chemical composition of the minerals were analyzed. The liberations at different grinding finenesses and the particle sizes of the minerals had been also determined. The phase shape of lead and zinc in the ore was also analyzed. The behaviors of various minerals and mineralogical factors affecting the flotation had been explained clearly. The investigation results were favorable to reasonable selection of flotation parameters and would provide theoretical guidance to lead-zinc separation.
