Imagine an arm balance with a pan at each end. On one pan we have the enemy of the young—boredom; on the other pan, the guardian angel of the young—discovery. We want the balance to be tipped in favor of the guardian angel, but as every teacher knows, this is not an automatic result. It takes a lot of planning and hard work. To counter boredom the teacher must create a learning environment for the student that is exciting, useful for maintaining basic skills, and fun to explore. In order to excite and involve students we must present a well-balanced program that con tains some novel, challenging, and surprise-filled problems. In the process of solving the problems, the students learn the basic skills through their experiences in gathering data.

<p class="AbstractText">The theme of a guardian angel has always become cryptic discussion among scholars, for as God, she is beyond our empirical grasp. Hari Kunzru is one of the writers who broach this subject in his work entitled “Deus Ex Machina”. In the short story, the guardian angel acts as the I-character of the story as well as the I-narrator of the story. By using theories on textual deconstruction and existentialism, we discuss and analyze the guardian angel’s <em>raison d’etre</em> (reason to be) and significance through her functions as the narrator and also the I-character in the narration of “Deus Ex Machina” story. From the analysis, we could draw three conclusions which relate <em>raison d’etre</em> (reason to be) and the significance of the guardian angel with the other characters within the story and with her readers outside the story.</p>

Abstract: This Research is one of methods to figure out the benefits from the use of marking road. A special handling is needed to the violations of Marking Road especially for populated area that located on lack of attention area. Sunday morning market of University of Gadjah Mada has tight activities every Sunday morning and Olahraga street is the study sample that represent other streets. This research using qualitative methods by gathering data field and interview to obtain results such as site size, history, behavior setting, behavior mapping, and personal space. The use of marking road must be related to territorial division of activities such as function and activity that is happening.  Territory happened through a different process every its object.  There are two divisions of territory for Sunday Market Morning that are Primary Territory and Secondary Territory. Primary Territory includes kiosk traders, parking attendants, and visitors. On the other hand, Secondary territory is a space that is used together such as secondary road or the divisor road. After the division of territories is obtained then the data is analyzed to get some alternatives. The alternatives are compared to get the pattern of territories that can be arranged through the use of Marking Road.Keywords: Marking Road, Territorial, Sunday Morning Market of Gadjah Mada University    Abstrak: Penelitian ini merupakan salah satu cara untuk mengetahui manfaat dari penggunaan marka jalan. Pelanggaran terhadap marka jalan perlu penanganan khusus terutama daerah-daerah padat yang terdapat pada jalur jalan lingkungan yang kurang menjadi perhatian. Pasar Minggu Pagi (Sunday Morning Market) Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta termasuk memiliki kegiatan padat setiap minggu pagi dan jalan olahraga sebagai sampel penelitian mewakili jalan yang lain. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan mengumpulkan data lapangan dan wawancara sehingga mendapatkan data seperti ukuran site, sejarah, behavior setting, behavior mapping, dan personal space. Penggunaan marka jalan pasti berhubungan dengan pembagian batas teritori kegiatan seperti fungsi dan aktivitas yang terjadi. Teritori terjadi melalui proses yang berbeda-beda tiap objeknya. Pada Sunday Morning Market terdapat pembagian dua teritori yaitu primary territory dan secondary territory. Primary territory meliputi pedagang kios, pelaku parkir, dan pengunjung. Sedangkan secondary territory merupakan ruang yang dipakai bersama seperti jalan sekunder ataupun jalan pembagi. Setelah didapatkan pembagian teritorinya maka dianalisis dan mendapatkan beberapa alternatif. Alternatif tersebut dibandingkan sehingga mendapatkan pola teritori yang dapat diatur melalui penggunaan marka jalan.Kata kunci: Marka Jalan, Teritorial, Pasar Minggu Pagi Universitas Gadjah Mada

Various ideas on how the universe appeared and develops, were in Indian tradition related to mythic, religious, or philosophical ideas and contexts, and developed during some 3.000 years - from the time of Vedas, to Puranas. Conserning its appeareance, two main ideas were presented. In one concept it appeared out of itself (auto-generated), and gods were among the first to appear in the cosmic sequences. In the other, it was a kind of divine creation, with hard work (like the dismembering of the primal Purusha), or as emanation of divine dance. Indian tradition had also various critiques of mythic and religious concepts (from the 8th c. BC, to the 6c.), who favoured naturalistic and materialistic explanations, and concepts, in their cosmogony and cosmology. One the peculiarities was that indian cosmogony and cosmology includes great time spans, since they used a digit system which was later (in the 13th c.) introduced to Europe by Fibonacci (Leonardo of Pisa, 1170-1240).

[This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the 2018 issue of Journal of Information Technology Education: Research, Volume 17] Aim/Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between teacher presence and social presence on one hand, and feelings of challenge and threat, self-efficacy, and motivation among students studying in virtual and blended courses on the other. Background: In this study we examined two types of courses, virtual courses (VCs) and blended courses (BCs). Physical separation between teacher and learners may lead to transactional distance, which should be reduced through teacher presence (TP) and social presence (SP). Methodology: This is a mixed-method study. Participants completed a threat/challenge questionnaire, a motivation questionnaire, a self-efficacy questionnaire, and answered open-ended questions. The sample included 484 students from two academic institutions in the Israel. Contribution: The study highlights the connection between critical factors involved in learning and teaching in VCs and BCs (teacher presence, social presence, feelings of challenge and threat, self-efficacy, and motivation) from the point of view of students studying in VCs and BCs. Findings: We found a link between teacher presence and social presence on one hand and feelings of challenge and threat, self-efficacy, and motivation of students in VCs and BCs on the other. At the same time, we found that the perceptions of motivation, challenge, and threat associated with VCs and BCs are interrelated, that is, students have similar perceptions in relation to both types of courses. Recommendations for Practitioners : It is preferable to create a learning environment that supports the learners and is attentive to their needs and to the creation of an active learning community. It has been found that these factors greatly influence the process and the quality of learning in the course. Recommendation for Researchers: The study examined the subjective feelings of the students about the learning process in virtual and blended environments. We recommend continuing to explore the characteristics of the virtual environment and of teaching methods in these environments. Impact on Society: The combination of virtual and blended learning environments in the learning process may lead to the realization of the educational vision of creating a learning environment that supports students and responds to their needs, enabling autonomous and collaborative learning while creating a learning community. Future Research: It is advisable to examine the issue from the perspective of the teachers in VCs and BCs to elucidate the topic from other angles.

The Life of Others (2006) has been a successful film, winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Feature in 2007. It is a film about surveillance, but also about  the lives of artists and writers in East Berlin in the middle of the 1980s, and about what role  literature and art played in the GDR and in the events of autumn 1989. The article focuses on the way the film portrays Wiesler’s transformation from hard-boiled Stasi officer into the guardian angel of his target, and shows how art – both literature and music – plays an important role in this process.

Rancheros are presented as a distinct subgroup of Mexican campesinos ‘peasants’ who enact a liberal individualist ideology that centrally values private property, especially land, and hard work as the legitimate route to el progreso ‘progress’. Both male and female rancheros are tough and independent “ranch” people who construct their identities in contrast to indigenas ‘Indians’ on the one hand (whom rancheros view as communally-oriented), and catrines ‘city people’ (whom rancheros see as fancily-dressed, and acting, “dandies”) on the other. A history of frontier isolation and mobility in la sociedad ranchera ‘ranchero society’ facilitated the development of both autonomy and strong ties of reciprocity for mutual support in hostile conditions, as well as common ways of living, dressing, and speaking. This valuing of both autonomy and affiliation undermines the often-invoked dichotomy between “Mexicans” and “North Americans” as being communal, or group-oriented, and individualistic, or self-oriented, respectively. Rather than predominantly one or the other, rancheros value both autonomy and affiliation. This historically constructed identity is enacted in a particular way of speaking, franqueza ‘frankness’, direct, straightforward, candid language that goes directly to a point. Informal verbal performances by members of these families within their homes, both in Chicago and Mexico, are analyzed for their construction of ranchero identity through franqueza.

Purpose: This systematic review aimed to provide available evidence in determining for the effectiveness of IPE as a modality in developing interprofessional learning environment for healthcare students.Methods: The computerized searches from 2009-2015 in ten electronic databases were performed. Two independent reviewers were consulted to assess the eligibility, level of evidences and methodological quality in each study. Result: nine out of ten studies were retrieved. These studies include (a) two RCT studies; scored eight and seven out of eight, (b) Three quasi-experimental pretestposttest design; scored seven, six, and six out of eight, (c) Three controlled before and after study; scored six, six, five and five out of eight, and (d) one controlled longitudinal; scored six out of eight respectively.Conclusion: Based on the systematic review, evidence showed that IPE was effective in building strong interprofessional learning environment. On the other hand, the authors recommend considering conduct of similar systematic review grounded on IPE with larger sample size within the health allied discipline.
