Previous research has examined the extent to which red rice affects both yield and grain quality of cultivated rice. However, this research was conducted over 15 yr ago. Modern long-grain rice cultivars have the potential to produce yields above 10,000 kg ha−1; however, it is unknown whether modern rice cultivars sacrifice competitiveness to achieve higher yields, or if, in fact, they are more competitive. Field studies were conducted in 2002 and 2003 at the Southeast Research and Extension Center near Rohwer, AR, and at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Research Farm near Lonoke, AR, to investigate the effect of red rice density on interference between red rice and five rice cultivars (‘CL161’, ‘Cocodrie’, ‘LaGrue’, ‘Lemont’, and ‘XL8’). White rice yield reductions were between 100 and 755 kg ha−1for every red rice plant m−2. The hybrid rice, XL8, had higher yields than the conventional cultivars. Red rice contamination in milling samples increased linearly as a function of red rice density at Lonoke and Rohwer in 2003. Dockage for each cultivar was calculated on the basis of the relationship between red rice density and red rice contamination. Semidwarf Lemont was the most contaminated and hybrid XL8 the least contaminated by the various densities of red rice.

Yield and quality of some local black rice cultivars were low as the panicle in the same clump do not reach maturity at the same time. This research program utilized plants of three local black rice cultivars of “Mariana”, “Purwokerto”, and “Toraja”. The plants were planted in pots and placed under a plastic house. Some agronomic traits were measured, including number of productive tiller (NPT) and NPT with mature grains in the panicle>85% (NPT-85). Selected plants were determined by quadrant method of NPT-85 over NPT. After three selection cycles, the research reveals four potential accessions of Mariana-58.07.(10,17,21,28),Mariana-96.04 (11,15,23,33); Purwokerto-06.09(10,23,27), and Toraja-06.07(11,13,19). These four accessions called as Unsri P-1 to Unsri P-4, respectively. Field evaluation indicated, the accessions were able to produce high quality grain with NPT-85 over NPT ratio ranged from 87% to 95 %, and yield potential ranged from 6.16 to 8.81 dry un-hulled grain t/ha.

Представлены экспериментальные данные о влиянии капельного орошения на урожайность и качество плодов томата при выращивании культуры в открытом грунте Московской области. На плодородных аллювиальных луговых почвах Москворецкой поймы при соблюдении агротехники без орошения в среднем за три года исследований в полевых условиях получена урожайность томата F1 Донской 31,9 т/га, с орошением 48,5 т/га, в т.ч. стандартной продукции 42,6 т/га.The article presents experimental data on the effect of drip irrigation on the yield and quality of tomato fruits when growing crops in open ground of the Moscow Region. On fertile alluvial meadow soils of the Moscow river floodplain, with the observance of agricultural technology without irrigation, the field yield of tomato hybrid F1 Donskoi on average for three years of research was 31.9 t/ha, with irrigation 48.5 t/ha, incl. standard production 42.6 t/ha.
