Purpose: Living Your Best Weight (LYBW) is an outpatient program based on Health at Every Size (HAES) principles for adults interested in managing their weight. The purpose of this pilot study was to determine perceptions of participants and their satisfaction with the LYBW program. Methods: A survey was developed to determine participant satisfaction of the LYBW program. Fifty-six participants who completed the LYBW program from June 2017 to February 2018 were contacted via telephone and invited to participate in the study. Forty-five participants agreed to receive the survey by mail or email. Results: Thirty-four participants completed the survey for a response rate of 61%. The average age of respondents was 52 years. Seventy-nine percent of respondents agreed that the program helped them to focus on health instead of weight. Eighty-two percent agreed that the program helped them respond to internal cues of hunger and fullness, and 94% were satisfied with the program. Conclusion: Participants reported that they were satisfied with the LYBW program and perceived improvements in their health. Future programming may benefit from using a HAES-based approach with adults.

Compulsões alimentares tem sido uma condição cada vez mais frequente, principalmente entre indivíduos com sobrepeso e obesidade. Porém, as intervenções nutricionais comumente trabalhadas com estes indivíduos impõem restrições alimentares, as quais podem piorar o quadro da compulsão alimentar. Assim, objetivou-se investigar na literatura a existência de intervenções nutricionais ‘sem dieta’ e sua eficácia na compulsão alimentar. Em forma de revisão bibliográfica, foram considerados nesta pesquisa os estudos entre 2007 e 2017 que conduziram intervenções nutricionais ‘sem dieta’ e avaliaram sua eficácia na compulsão alimentar. Dezoito estudos preencheram os critérios de inclusão, e trouxeram intervenções baseadas em Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size, Mindful Eating, Eating Competence e outras intervenções classificadas como ‘sem dieta’. Em todos eles, observou-se a redução significante nos episódios de compulsão alimentar, além de melhora em outros aspectos do comportamento e consumo alimentares. Foi observado que, apesar de terem sido identificadas diferentes intervenções, elas tinham pontos em comum, como respeito aos sinais de fome e saciedade e quebra da mentalidade de restrição alimentar, os quais, em concordância com outros autores, podem estar no cerne da eficiência no trabalho de compulsão alimentar. Sugere-se que intervenções nutricionais ‘sem dieta’ sejam promissoras para tratamento de compulsão alimentar.

<p>O presente artigo relata, brevemente, a história de um curso comunitário destinado a oferecer intervenções não farmacológicas a mulheres com excesso de peso. Ênfase é dada ao formato atual do curso, que conta com equipe multidisciplinar na área de Saúde apta a oferecer suporte amplo à mulher obesa que encontra dificuldade para se enquadrar o padrão de beleza requerido pela sociedade. Em nosso curso, propomos um programa centrado na saúde e na qualidade de vida do indivíduo obeso, sem foco na perda de peso, de acordo com os princípios da filosofia “Health at Every Size”. Os resultados qualitativos preliminares indicam que tal abordagem é promissora, oferecendo aos profissionais de saúde uma alternativa à proposta vigente de "perda de peso a qualquer custo". Os avanços no ensino, na pesquisa e na extensão associados ao curso também são discutidos ao longo do artigo.</p>

Introduction: Internal weight-based oppression WBO is the internalized negative attitudes, values and beliefs people hold about body weight, and is associated with depression, anxiety, body image disturbance, disordered eating, avoidance of physical activity, and increased calorie consumption. Conversely, body positivity encompasses body acceptance, body appreciation, and body love, and adaptive approaches protective of health and wellbeing. The objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of the brief activity on body positivity and internal WBO in female students at Qatar University. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental pre-post evaluation design, with quantitative assessment of body positivity and internal weight-based oppression before a brief activity (pre), immediately afterwards (post), and 10 weeks later (follow up), and qualitative assessment at the 10-week follow up. Love your Body, a Health at Every Size-based activity, was developed and delivered by public health students as part of the Mental Health Festival. The 10- minute activity involved Yay scales, positive affirmation stickers, photography, postcards, and gratitude writing. Evaluation measures used were the Body Appreciation Scale 2 (BAS-2), Modified Weight Bias Internalization Scale (M-WBIS), Fat Attitudes Assessment Toolkit Size Acceptance (FAAT-SA) and Self Reflection (FAAT-SR) subscales, and an open-ended questionnaire. Results: A total of 35 female undergraduate students completed assessments at all time points. Self-reflection and body appreciation increased significantly after the activity. All measures showed a trend towards improvement from pre to post assessment, but a return to baseline or near baseline status after 10 weeks. Qualitative results suggested that improvements were sustained at follow up. Conclusion: The activity had a positive effect on participants’ body appreciation and self-reflection in the short term, but these improvements were not sustained over the longer term. The high number of missing responses compromised the potential to determine findings that are more robust.
