The development of hybrid materials based on polyoxometalates constitutes a strategy for the design of multifunctional materials. The slow evaporation of an aqueous solution of [NaP5W30O110]14− in the presence of γ-Cyclodextrin (γ-CD) led to the crystallization of a K6Na8{[NaP5W30O110]•(C48H80O40)}•23H2O (NaP5W30•1CD) supramolecular compound, which was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR-spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. Structural analysis revealed the formation of 1:1 {[NaP5W30O110]•[γ-CD]}14− adduct in the solid state. Studies in solution by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and 31P DOSY, have demonstrated weak interactions between the inorganic anion and the macrocyclic organic molecule.

AbstractCarbon monoxide (CO) is a gaseous molecule known as the silent killer. It is widely believed that an increase in blood carboxyhemoglobin (CO-Hb) is the best biomarker to define CO intoxication, while the fact that CO accumulation in tissues is the most likely direct cause of mortality is less investigated. There is no reliable method other than gas chromatography to accurately determine CO content in tissues. Here we report the properties and usage of hemoCD1, a synthetic supramolecular compound composed of an iron(II)porphyrin and a cyclodextrin dimer, as an accessible reagent for a simple colorimetric assay to quantify CO in biological samples. The assay was validated in various organ tissues collected from rats under normal conditions and after exposure to CO. The kinetic profile of CO in blood and tissues after CO treatment suggested that CO accumulation in tissues is prevented by circulating Hb, revealing a protective role of Hb in CO intoxication. Furthermore, hemoCD1 was used in vivo as a CO removal agent, showing that it acts as an effective adjuvant to O2 ventilation to eliminate residual CO accumulated in organs, including the brain. These findings open new therapeutic perspectives to counteract the toxicity associated with CO poisoning.

The nanorods of [Pb(L)Br2]n (1) (L = 1,2-bis (pyridin-3-ylmethylene)hydrazine) underwent ultrasound irradiation and were synthesized as a novel three-dimensional fishbone-like Pb(II)–organic coordination supramolecular compound. The morphology and nanostructure of the synthesized compound were determined through SEM, FTIR, elemental analyses, and XRD. Compound 1 was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and revealed six-coordinated Pb (II) ions bonded to two N atoms from two L ligands and four bromine anions, forming a one-dimensional fishbone-like coordination polymer, which extended into a 3D supramolecular structure through weak intermolecular interactions. The bulk thermal stability of compound 1 was examined using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Moreover, PbO nanoparticles with sizes of 40–80 nm were obtained through the thermolysis of 1 at 180 °C using oleic acid as a surfactant.

A novel supramolecular compound {(L1) [CdI4]} (L1 = 1-(3-(((1 s,3R,5S)-1,3,5,7,tetraazaadamantan-1-ium-1-yl)methyl)benzyl)-1,3,5,7,-tetraazaadamantan-1-ium) was synthesized from CdI2 and L1 by self-assembly reaction in solution. Its structure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, and X-ray crystallography showed that the crystal was mononuclear. The compound was characterized by UV, TG, photocatalysis and adsorption.

A novel supramolecular compound 1 (C6H3) (CH2NH3)2+ (CH2NH2)]2· (β-Mo8O26)·3H2O was constructed under hydrothermal conditions by (NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O and arylmethylamine cation L1. This compound 1 has been unambiguously characterized by PXRD, IR, and X-ray single crystal diffraction. What’ more, the compound 1 has features of adsorption and catalytic activity.
