‘Get Your Indexing Shot in the Arm’: American Society for Indexing (ASI) 2021 conference

Benefiting from lessons learnt during the hastily organized 2020 online conference, the American Society for Indexing’s 2021 conference was a less intensive affair, with six presentations spread over two days and a little more time allowed for breaks. With over 70 participants from around the world, this was another international affair, with a wide-ranging programme covering the practice of indexing (working more efficiently, embedded indexing), career development, unusual indexing projects (the Mueller report index), and more thought-provoking topics (indexing through the ages, the challenges of musical literature). There was even time for some networking and informal discussion during the ‘Happy Hour’ at the end of the first day.

Students and young university staff development in the context of e-learning and the fourth industrial revolution

This article aims at presenting the current state of students’ capacity for learning and competencies of young staff members in Vietnamese universities. Then, we imply some orientations to improve students’ capacity for learning and young lecturers’ capacity for teaching in the 4th industrial revolution such as: Application of technology in teaching - education management and international affair.

Much in Little: The Umbrella Clause that Changes the International Investment Protection Standard

The umbrella clause of a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) establishes an obligation for the State parties to respect all commitments entered into by an investment contract between an investor and the host country. It extends the jurisdiction of a BIT forum to the breach-of-contracts matters and changes the nature of a private issue to an international affair. The polemic over the clause's interpretation has become a controversial issue over the years. It comes as a backlash for the Contracting States as a foreign investor could quickly bring an investment problem to an international forum. After more than a decade since its first discussion in the case of SGS v Pakistan, the clause grows to be one of the reasons for many countries to leave or reform their BIT model and changes the trend of international investment protection standard. This article addresses the different episodes of the umbrella clause alongside over the past decade. It projects the debate over the clause’s scope, its development, the governments' action, and their perception over it, and finally, how it changes the standard of investment protection in international treaties.

PERANCANGAN BLUEPRINT KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DI OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIR UNIVERSITAS XYZ

Organisasi yang hidup pada saat ini telah dihadapkan pada suatu lingkungan kompleks yang menuntut organisasi harus bersaing dengan cara yang cerdas, suatu cara dimana organisasi mampu membaca dan merespon tanda - tanda perubahan yang terjadi dalam lingkungan kompetisi secara cepat, tepat dan efisien. Salah satu cara cerdas yang dapat dilakukan organisasi adalah dengan cara memanfaatkan knowledge sebagai kekuatan yang dapat mendorong produktivitas dan meningkatkan inovasi. Universitas XYZ melalui subunit Office Of International Affair memiliki potensi untuk memperoleh dan menciptakan knowledge - knowledge baru melalui kerjasama internasional dengan Universitas Youngsan di Korea Selatan yang mana knowledge - knowledge baru tersebut nantinya dapat dimanfaatkan untuk menciptakan inovasi dan meningkatkan competitive advantages. Selaku anggota organisasi, kurangnya kontribusi dan kesadaran knowledge worker dalam berbagi knowledge yang dimilikinya baik itu kepada sesama knowledge worker ataupun kepada organisasi menjadi suatu permasalahan yang dapat menghalangi Universitas XYZ dalam memperoleh potensinya tersebut. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut maka perlu dilakukan perancangan suatu knowledge management system (KMS) yang dapat menanamkan suatu pola pikir bahwa knowledge bukan hanya sebagai possession object yang hanya dimiliki setiap knowledge worker tetapi juga menjadikan knowledge sebagai practice object yang dapat ditransfer dan digunakan kembali oleh knowledge worker lain untuk menciptakan knowledge baru agar knowledge itu menjadi berkembang. The 10-Step Knowledge Management Roadmap yang dikemukakan oleh Amrit Tiwana menjadi panduan yang digunakan untuk melakukan perencanaan, perancangan dan penerapan KMS dalam organisasi. Analisis infrastruktur, menghubungkan knowledge management dan strategi organisasi, merancang KMS platform, identifikasi knowledge yang ada dalam organisasi, merancang tim KMS dan membuat blueprint KMS berdasarkan 7 layer KMS arsitektur adalah 6 dari 10 langkah yang dilakukan untuk menciptakan suatu rancangan KMS. Blueprint knowledge management system adalah hasil dari penelitian yang dilakukan. Blueprint dirancang sesuai dengan hasil analisis terhadap beberapa aspek yang telah dijabarkan dalam The 10-Step Knowledge Management Roadmap. Dengan adanya blueprint knowledge management system ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan inovasi dan mempermudah Office Of International Affair dalam pengambilan keputusan guna memecahkan masalah yang sering terjadi ataupun masalah unik yang akan terjadi nanti.
