Significance They joined a public statement warning the government against undermining a landmark international agreement governing the strategic Turkish Straits. The government’s condemnation of the statement as a veiled coup suggests President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s fragile alliance with the military’s ‘Eurasianist’ wing has ended, and shows his aversion to criticism as he sets out to redefine Turkey’s international commitments. Impacts The falling out with the Eurasianists will not fundamentally alter Turkey’s relations with Russia or China in the short term. The reaction may facilitate Erdogan’s efforts to improve ties with the United States under the Biden administration. Ankara’s ties with Russia would be severely tested if Erdogan were eventually to pull Turkey out of the Montreux convention.

In December 2020, authorities responsible for social and legal protection of children as well as non-government nonprofit organizations authorized to provide social and legal children protection received the “Recommendation of the Deputy of the Public Defender of Rights regarding contacts of children in foster care not only with their parents.” This recommendation immediately raised the response of foster parents, accompanying organizations, and some of the authorities of social and legal children protection. Active members of Section for the substitute family care with the Czech-Moravian psychological society issued a public statement to the aforementioned document in which they point out neglecting the interest of the child and appeal to take into consideration professional psychological findings and experience from practice. We reprint the full text of the statement here and we would appreciate it if this topic, presented on the E-psychologie, captured the attention of experts and raised a further discussion.

This chapter details how, until he left for Italy in the early 1130s and became involved in resolving the papal schism, Saint Bernard spent most of his time at his monastery of Clairvaux. The years before he dedicated himself to defending the papacy might at first seem rather tame by comparison with what came afterwards. But a closer look especially at the letters composed at this time shows that Bernard was already committing himself to causes that had nothing to do with Clairvaux or even with Cistercian monasticism. In 1127 or 1128, Bernard drew up a statement about how bishops should behave. It is possible to see the beginning of the polemic against abuse of office in the Church. What is remarkable here, however, is not Bernard's concern with the state of the Church. It is his public statement about what was happening in his own Cistercian Order.

The UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires organizations with a turnover of over £36m to make a public statement on the steps they are taking to identify and prevent modern slavery in their operations and supply chains. Oxfam GB advocated for this legislation to be enacted. In this, our fifth statement, we share our progress against the three-year objectives set last year, which focus on corporate responsibility governance, human rights due diligence and inclusion of our country programmes. Due to the particularly devastating impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, we have added a section to highlight our initial response in March 2020, which fell under this reporting period.

Chapter 12 analyzes the role of Russian disinformation in FBI Director James Comey’s decision to verbally indict Clinton’s handling of the server in a public statement in July 2016 announcing that the investigation into it was being closed without charges, as well as in his notification to Congress on October 28 that he was scrutinizing newly found Clinton emails located on the laptop of Anthony Weiner, the husband of a key Clinton aide. Although the reopened investigation proved fruitless, coverage of it by the news media and reinforcement by troll accounts and the Trump campaign fueled suspicion and bolstered Trump’s allegations that Clinton was hiding something.
