The conventional equivalent source method for near-field acoustic holography is an effective noise diagnosis method using microphone array. However, its performance is limited by microphone spacing, so the effect is unsatisfied when the wave number is high. In this paper, to broaden the frequency suitability and improve the performance of sound source reconstruction with low signal-to-noise ratios, a block Bayesian compressive sensing method based on the equivalent source method is proposed. Numerical results show that this proposed method has a good reconstruction performance and makes wideband reconstruction possible. By changing the frequency, location, and signal-to-noise ratio of the sound source, the reconstruction performance of the proposed method can remain stable. Finally, the validity and practicability of the proposed method are verified by experiments.

Downward continuation is an effective technique that can be used to transform the magnetic data measured on one surface to the data that would be measured on another arbitrary lower surface. However, it suffers from amplitude attenuation and is susceptible to noise, especially when the continuation distance is large. To solve these problems, we present a stable and high-precision downward continuation method combining the ideas of equivalent source technique, Tikhonov regularization, radial logarithmic power spectrum analysis, and constrained strategy. To implement this method, the observed data is used to construct the equivalent source in the study area, and the small amount of measured magnetic data at the lower surface (relative to the original observation surface) is employed to constrain the calculation procedure simultaneously. Then the magnetic data at the target surface can be obtained by using a forward calculation procedure instead of the risky downward continuation procedure. The proposed method is tested on both synthetic model data and real magnetic data collected in the South China sea. Various obtained results demonstrate that the method reported in this study has higher accuracy and better noise resistance than the traditional downward continuation methods.

Abstract. Marine magnetic surveys over oceanic ridge regions are of great interest for investigations of structure and evolution of oceanic crust, and have played a key role in developing the theory of plate tectonics (Dyment, 1993; Maus et al, 2007; Vine and Matthews, 1963). In this study, we propose an interpolation approach based on the dual-layer equivalent source model for the generation of a magnetic anomaly map based on sparse survey line data over oceanic ridge areas. In this approach, information from an ocean crust age model is utilized as constraint for the inversion procedure. The constraints can affect the magnetization distribution of equivalent sources following crust age. The results of synthetic tests show that the obtained magnetic anomalies have higher accuracy than those obtained by other interpolation methods. Meanwhile, considering the unclear on the true magnetization directions of sources and the background field in the synthetic model, well interpolation result can still be obtained. We applied the approach to magnetic data obtained from five survey lines east of the Southeast Indian Ridge. This prediction result is useful to improve the lithospheric magnetic field models WDMAMv2 and EMAG2v3, in the terms of spatial resolution and the consistency with observed data.
