In our present investigation, we obtain the improved third-order Hankel determinant for a class of starlike functions connected with modified sigmoid functions. Further, we investigate the fourth-order Hankel determinant, Zalcman conjecture, and also evaluate the fourth-order Hankel determinants for 2-fold, 3-fold, and 4-fold symmetric starlike functions.

AbstractIn this article, by employing the hyperbolic tangent function tanhz, a subfamily $\mathcal{S}_{\tanh }^{\ast }$ S tanh ∗ of starlike functions in the open unit disk $\mathbb{D}\subset \mathbb{C}$ D ⊂ C : $$\begin{aligned} \mathbb{D}= \bigl\{ z:z\in \mathbb{C} \text{ and } \vert z \vert < 1 \bigr\} \end{aligned}$$ D = { z : z ∈ C and | z | < 1 } is introduced and investigated. The main contribution of this article includes derivations of sharp inequalities involving the Taylor–Maclaurin coefficients for functions belonging to the class $\mathcal{S}_{\tanh }^{\ast } $ S tanh ∗ of starlike functions in $\mathbb{D}$ D . In particular, the bounds of the first three Taylor–Maclaurin coefficients, the estimates of the Fekete–Szegö type functionals, and the estimates of the second- and third-order Hankel determinants are the main problems that are proposed to be studied here.

Abstract This paper is concerned with Hankel determinants for starlike and convex functions related to modified sigmoid functions. Sharp bounds are given for second and third Hankel determinants.

AbstractWe present a formula that expresses the Hankel determinants of a linear combination of length $$d+1$$ d + 1 of moments of orthogonal polynomials in terms of a $$d\times d$$ d × d determinant of the orthogonal polynomials. This formula exists somehow hidden in the folklore of the theory of orthogonal polynomials but deserves to be better known, and be presented correctly and with full proof. We present four fundamentally different proofs, one that uses classical formulae from the theory of orthogonal polynomials, one that uses a vanishing argument and is due to Elouafi (J Math Anal Appl 431:1253–1274, 2015) (but given in an incomplete form there), one that is inspired by random matrix theory and is due to Brézin and Hikami (Commun Math Phys 214:111–135, 2000), and one that uses (Dodgson) condensation. We give two applications of the formula. In the first application, we explain how to compute such Hankel determinants in a singular case. The second application concerns the linear recurrence of such Hankel determinants for a certain class of moments that covers numerous classical combinatorial sequences, including Catalan numbers, Motzkin numbers, central binomial coefficients, central trinomial coefficients, central Delannoy numbers, Schröder numbers, Riordan numbers, and Fine numbers.

In our present investigation, some coefficient functionals for a subclass relating to starlike functions connected with three-leaf mappings were considered. Sharp coefficient estimates for the first four initial coefficients of the functions of this class are addressed. Furthermore, we obtain the Fekete–Szegö inequality, sharp upper bounds for second and third Hankel determinants, bounds for logarithmic coefficients, and third-order Hankel determinants for two-fold and three-fold symmetric functions.

We evaluate the Hankel determinants of various sequences related to Bernoulli and Euler numbers and special values of the corresponding polynomials. Some of these results arise as special cases of Hankel determinants of certain sums and differences of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, while others are consequences of a method that uses the derivatives of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. We also obtain Hankel determinants for sequences of sums and differences of powers and for generalized Bernoulli polynomials belonging to certain Dirichlet characters with small conductors. Finally, we collect and organize Hankel determinant identities for numerous sequences, both new and known, containing Bernoulli and Euler numbers and polynomials.

Abstract In this paper, we investigate algebraic, differential and asymptotic properties of polynomials $p_n(x)$ that are orthogonal with respect to the complex oscillatory weight $w(x)=\mathrm {e}^{\mathrm {i}\omega x}$ on the interval $[-1,1]$, where $\omega>0$. We also investigate related quantities such as Hankel determinants and recurrence coefficients. We prove existence of the polynomials $p_{2n}(x)$ for all values of $\omega \in \mathbb {R}$, as well as degeneracy of $p_{2n+1}(x)$ at certain values of $\omega $ (called kissing points). We obtain detailed asymptotic information as $\omega \to \infty $, using recent theory of multivariate highly oscillatory integrals, and we complete the analysis with the study of complex zeros of Hankel determinants, using the large $\omega $ asymptotics obtained before.
