Abstract Let $G$ be a split connected reductive group over a finite field of characteristic $p > 2$ such that $G_\text {der}$ is absolutely almost simple. We give a geometric construction of perverse $\mathbb {F}_p$ -sheaves on the Iwahori affine flag variety of $G$ which are central with respect to the convolution product. We deduce an explicit formula for an isomorphism from the spherical mod $p$ Hecke algebra to the center of the Iwahori mod $p$ Hecke algebra. We also give a formula for the central integral Bernstein elements in the Iwahori mod $p$ Hecke algebra. To accomplish these goals we construct a nearby cycles functor for perverse $\mathbb {F}_p$ -sheaves and we use Frobenius splitting techniques to prove some properties of this functor. We also prove that certain equal characteristic analogues of local models of Shimura varieties are strongly $F$ -regular, and hence they are $F$ -rational and have pseudo-rational singularities.

Abstract We exhibit basic algebro-geometric results on the formal model of semi-infinite flag varieties and its Schubert varieties over an algebraically closed field ${\mathbb K}$ of characteristic $\neq 2$ from scratch. We show that the formal model of a semi-infinite flag variety admits a unique nice (ind-)scheme structure, its projective coordinate ring has a $\mathbb {Z}$ -model and it admits a Frobenius splitting compatible with the boundaries and opposite cells in positive characteristic. This establishes the normality of the Schubert varieties of the quasi-map space with a fixed degree (instead of their limits proved in [K, Math. Ann. 371 no.2 (2018)]) when $\mathsf {char}\, {\mathbb K} =0$ or $\gg 0$ , and the higher-cohomology vanishing of their nef line bundles in arbitrary characteristic $\neq 2$ . Some particular cases of these results play crucial roles in our proof [47] of a conjecture by Lam, Li, Mihalcea and Shimozono [60] that describes an isomorphism between affine and quantum K-groups of a flag manifold.

AbstractIn their study of local models of Shimura varieties for totally ramified extensions, Pappas and Rapoport posed a conjecture about the reducedness of a certain subscheme of {n\times n} matrices. We give a positive answer to their conjecture in full generality. Our main ideas follow naturally from two of our previous works. The first is our proof of a conjecture of Kreiman, Lakshmibai, Magyar, and Weyman on the equations defining type A affine Grassmannians. The second is the work of the first two authors and Kamnitzer on affine Grassmannian slices and their reduced scheme structure. We also present a version of our argument that is almost completely elementary: the only non-elementary ingredient is the Frobenius splitting of Schubert varieties.

Abstract The goal of this paper is to construct a Frobenius splitting on $G/U$ via the Poisson geometry of $(G/U,\pi _{{{\scriptscriptstyle G}}/{{\scriptscriptstyle U}}})$, where $G$ is a simply connected semi-simple algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p> 3$, $U$ is the uniradical of a Borel subgroup of $G$, and $\pi _{{{\scriptscriptstyle G}}/{{\scriptscriptstyle U}}}$ is the standard Poisson structure on $G/U$. We first study the Poisson geometry of $(G/U,\pi _{{{\scriptscriptstyle G}}/{{\scriptscriptstyle U}}})$. Then we develop a general theory for Frobenius splittings on $\mathbb{T}$-Poisson varieties, where $\mathbb{T}$ is an algebraic torus. In particular, we prove that compatibly split subvarieties of Frobenius splittings constructed in this way must be $\mathbb{T}$-Poisson subvarieties. Lastly, we apply our general theory to construct a Frobenius splitting on $G/U$.

Abstract We explain that the Plücker relations provide the defining equations of the thick flag manifold associated to a Kac–Moody algebra. This naturally transplants the result of Kumar–Mathieu–Schwede about the Frobenius splitting of thin flag varieties to the thick case. As a consequence, we provide a description of the space of global sections of a line bundle of a thick Schubert variety as conjectured in Kashiwara–Shimozono [13]. This also yields the existence of a compatible basis of thick Demazure modules and the projective normality of the thick Schubert varieties.

Abstract We in this paper define the outer-Perron-Frobenius splitting, which is an extension of the pseudo- Perron-Frobenius splitting defined in [A.N. Sushama, K. Premakumari, K.C. Sivakumar, Extensions of Perron-Frobenius splittings and relationships with nonnegative Moore-Penrose inverse, Linear and Multilinear Algebra 63 (2015) 1-11]. We present some criteria for the convergence of the outer-Perron-Frobenius splitting. The findings of this paper generalize some known results in the literatures.

This dissertation establishes uniform bounds in characteristic p rings which are either F-finite or essentially of finite type over an excellent local ring. These uniform bounds are then used to show that the Hilbert-Kunz length functions and the normalized Frobenius splitting numbers defined on the spectrum of a ring converge uniformly to their limits, namely the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity function and the Fsignature function. From this we establish that the F-signature function is lower semicontinuous. Lower semi-continuity of the F-signature of a pair is also established. We also give a new proof of the upper semi-continuity of Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity, a result originally proven by Ilya Smirnov.
