Tactical and Substantive Educational Templates on Formal Open Learning Content Sharing Repositories and Referatories

To enable more efficient work, educational templates have been created for various contexts: online learning, assessments, video creation, document creation, and others. This work involves the exploration of 191 template-related digital learning objects shared on a learning object repository/referatory, an LMS-related object-sharing site, social slideshow sharing site, and social video sharing site, as an environmental scan. This work culminates in a definition of a “tactical and substantive educational template” (TASET) as a collaborative object and various requisite features for quality and heritability.

Re-Mar: Repository of Marine Learning Objects

Current literature shows the lack of learning object repositories exclusively related to environmental education and that there is no predominant software. This paper presents Re-Mar, a marine learning object repository based on open source software. Re-Mar is a part of an effort to promote ocean literacy through educational content for students and teachers. The repository is supported by computational technologies to catalog and organize learning objects to retrieve and reuse. Our prototype shows that is possible to store, catalog, retrieve, and link learning objects to support environmental education and coping with learning objects lifecycle. This is the first step to future aggregation of linked data, ontologies, and artificial intelligence aspects.

COMPARITATIVE ANALYIS OF IPVE & IPV6 INTENDED FOR LEARNING OBJECT REPOSITORY TO SETUP AN E-LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

In this modern era of Internet, E-learning is very popular among Internet users, users utilize Internet to learn from their homes with little or less effort. However the need to upgrade the suite to counter the ever increasing needs of internet was recognized and IPv6 suite was approved in 1994. IPv6 not only overcomes the issue of depletion of network addresses but also provides various other features such as automation, scalability, security, and others such as multicasting etc. Migration to IPv6 is dependent on its performance against the IPv4 implemented system. In this paper evaluation of various performance metrics of e-learning network performance on IPv4 vs IPv6 implemented system were considered. The results show the difference in the performance which must be considered when adopting the newer version and/or its implication on the end-system application. A comparison of performance of IPv6 on the Linux operating system against other popular operating system such as Windows and MacOS was noted. Overall it was shown by results that the Linux implementation of e-learning over IPv6 outperformed the other commodity operating system.

Η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση μέσα από τα σχολικά εγχειρίδια και τα καινοτόμα προγράμματα στην πρωτοβάθμια εκπαίδευση

Οι έννοιες της Ευρώπης και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (Ε.Ε.) είναι συνυφασμένες μεταξύ τους. Το όραμα της ενωμένης Ευρώπης, σήμερα Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (Ε.Ε.), έχει τις ρίζες του βαθιά στο ιστορικό παρελθόν της γηραιάς ηπείρου. Η ευρωπαϊκή σύγκλιση καταδεικνύει την απόφαση των κρατών της Ευρώπης να συνεργαστούν σε όλους τους τομείς. Η εκπαίδευση αποτελεί την κινητήρια δύναμη στη διαδικασία της ευρωπαϊκής ολοκλήρωσης. Η ενωσιακή εκπαιδευτική πολιτική, σεβόμενη την αρχή της επικουρικότητας, υιοθετεί δράσεις και πρωτοβουλίες, προκειμένου να αναπτυχθεί ένα αίσθημα «ανήκειν» σε όλους τους ευρωπαίους μαθητές. Σημαντικό εργαλείο, ώστε να αναπτύξουν οι μαθητές μια κοινή ευρωπαϊκή ταυτότητα εντός του ποικιλόμορφου ευρωπαϊκού πλαισίου, αποτελούν τα Ευρωπαϊκά Εκπαιδευτικά Προγράμματα. Η Ελλάδα, ως εταίρος, συμμετέχει ισότιμα στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (Ε.Ε.) και ακολουθεί τις κοινές ευρωπαϊκές πολιτικές σε όλους τους τομείς συμπεριλαμβανομένης και της εκπαίδευσης. Τα σχολικά εγχειρίδια και τα Ψηφιακά Αποθετήρια Μαθησιακών Αντικειμένων (Learning Object Repository-LOR) Φωτόδεντρο, ως τα κύρια μορφωτικά αγαθά και φορείς ιδεολογίας, αλλά και τα προγράμματα που προτείνει το Υπουργείο Παιδείας και Θρησκευμάτων, πραγματώνουν τους σκοπούς της αγωγής και της εκπαίδευσης που η ελληνική πολιτεία προωθεί. Η ερευνητική στόχευση της παρούσας μελέτης, αφορά τη διερεύνηση της προβολής της Ευρώπης και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (Ε.Ε.) μέσα στα κείμενα των γλωσσικών μαθημάτων της Πρωτοβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης, αλλά και την ανάδειξη των τάσεων, μεταξύ των μαθητών της ίδιας βαθμίδας, αναφορικά με την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (Ε.Ε.) και τη συμβολή των καινοτόμων Ευρωπαϊκών Προγραμμάτων. Η έρευνα διενεργήθηκε σε δύο επίπεδα. Αρχικά διερευνήθηκαν τα μηνύματα ρητά ή σιωπηρά που καταγράφονται στα σχολικά εγχειρίδια της Πρωτοβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης που χρησιμοποιούνται στο γλωσσικό μάθημα και στα κείμενα του Ψηφιακού Αποθετηρίου Μαθησιακών Αντικειμένων (Learning Object Repository-LOR) Φωτόδεντρο-πολιτισμός και αφορούν την Ευρώπη και την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (Ε.Ε.). Σε δεύτερο επίπεδο, κάνοντας εν μέρει χρήση κειμένων των εγχειριδίων, διερευνήθηκαν οι απόψεις των αποδεκτών μαθητών της Πρωτοβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης (10-12 ετών) για την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (Ε.Ε.) και τις πολιτικές της, αλλά και για τη συνεισφορά των καινοτόμων Ευρωπαϊκών Εκπαιδευτικών Προγραμμάτων (Erasmus+, Teachers4europe, eTwinning). Τα αποτελέσματα κατέδειξαν τον προσανατολισμό των κειμένων που διδάσκονται οι μαθητές, αναφορικά με την προβολή της Ευρώπης και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (Ε.Ε.). Ανέδειξαν τις τάσεις που κυριαρχούν μεταξύ των μαθητών και αφορούν τις απόψεις τους για την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (Ε.Ε.) και τη συνεισφορά των καινοτόμων Ευρωπαϊκών Εκπαιδευτικών Προγραμμάτων.

Interface Design of Learning Object Repository Based on Heuristic Approach/ Mereka Bentuk Antara Muka Repositori Objek Pembelajaran Berdasarkan Pemeriksaan Heuristik

A Learning Object Repository (LOR) is a concept of storage, reuse and sharing of learning objects accompanied by the community in the education sector consists of students and educators. One of the elements identified to distinguish the quality of a learning object repository is the interface usability. Usability is critical for the success of an application to help users achieve their objectives. Based on previous studies, very few researches have been conducted to highlight problems in the usability of LORs. In addition, the current LOR interfaces did not help facilitate users to achieve the objectives of their assignments. Hence, a comprehensive heuristic study on interface usability was conducted on three chosen LORs in order to identify the basic functions that must exist in the LOR interface, to develop an interface prototype to be used as a model reflecting the heuristic results, and to perform tests on the interface prototype developed. The methodology of this study involves three phases: planning, execution, and development. In the execution phase, the severity ratings for the LOR interfaces were identified by Nielsen Evaluation. The prototype was tested to ensure that the usability principles were adhered.

Deploying a WordPress-based learning object repository to scale up instruction and effect a culture of sharing

The purpose of this paper is to describe an academic library’s successful implementation of a WordPress-based learning object repository (LOR) that facilitates widespread sharing of learning objects, allowing librarians to save prep time and to scale up the library instruction program. Both practical and technical implications of using WordPress software as a repository platform are discussed.Design/methodology/approachWordPress is free, open-source software that may be used as a platform for an LOR. By using WordPress software to create a public index of content hosted on a server, the library created an LOR that features a record for each learning object which contains metadata about the object’s format, content and accessibility. The WordPress platform/repository is also expandable, through additional free and paid plug-ins, to function as a simple learning management system that may also issue badges.FindingsAs a result of implementing an LOR, librarians save time prepping for classes by reusing or adapting their colleagues’ work, librarians are able to offer tutorials to online students and the repository also serves as a showcase for the library instruction program.Originality/valueMany academic libraries are feeling increased pressure to scale up library instruction and serve more online students. This paper illustrates a case study of how one library uses an easy-to-implement and low-budget LOR to make progress toward these goals.
