Background:A growing number of professional societies in clinical and medically related disciplines investigate evidence, make recommendations, and take action to advance gender equity. Evidence on women’s advancement and leadership in the context of the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology, EULAR, is limited [1].Objectives:The objective of the EULAR Task Force on Gender Equity in Academic Rheumatology was to establish the extent of the unmet need for support of female rheumatologists, health professionals and non-clinical scientists in academic rheumatology and develop a framework to address this through EULAR and Emerging EULAR Network (EMEUNET).Methods:Potential interventions to accelerate gender-equitable career advancement in academic rheumatology were gathered from a narrative review of the relevant literature, expert opinion of a multi-disciplinary Task Force (comprised of 23 members from 11 countries), data from the surveys of EULAR scientific member society leaders, EULAR and EMEUNET members, and EULAR Executive Committee members. These interventions were rated by Task Force members, who ranked each according to perceived priority on a five-point numeric scale from 1 = very low to 5 = very high.Results:A framework of 29 potential interventions was formulated, which covers six thematic areas, namely, EULAR policies, advocacy and communication, EULAR Congress and associated symposia, training courses, mentoring/peer support, and EULAR funding (Figure 1).Figure 1.A framework of potential interventions with the levels of priority, mean and standard deviation (SD)Conclusion:The framework provides structured interventions for accelerating gender-equitable career advancement in academic rheumatology.References:[1]Andreoli L, Ovseiko PV, Hassan N, et al. EAGEN is one of the 7 founding sisters and an ordinary member society of UEG. EAGEN members have contributed significantly to the development of UEG in leading positions within UEG. The significant impact of UEG board members on science, education, and organization of European gastroenterology is demonstrated by the remarkable list of EAGEN board members who have received major UEG awards or prizes. The focus of EAGEN within UEG has been on postgraduate education. In this function, EAGEN has developed educational formats which after their establishment were handed over to UEG. EAGEN has established itself as an important provider of education in gastroenterology including pancreatic-biliary diseases, GI oncology, endoscopic procedures, nutrition, and intestinal microbiology. EAGEN has the goal to identify educational needs, fill existing gaps in medical education, and advance the quality of education. To fulfill these tasks, EAGEN is in close cooperation with the UEG education committee and UEG member societies. EAGEN puts a focus on reduction of pan-European health inequalities, provision of equal opportunity, promotion of young talent, and improvement of clinical standards and guidelines.

The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), a non-governmental, not-for-profit, global organization promoting health and biomedical informatics, is committed to the right of communities/populations and individuals to science, comprised of three separate constituent rights: 1) the right to participate in science, 2) the right to benefit from science, and 3) the right to benefit from a person’s own contribution to science or inventions. As such, IMIA provides a global platform where scientists, researchers, health information users, vendors, developers, consultants, health care consumers, and suppliers can meet in an environment of cooperation and sharing. In the context of IMIA’s conferences, the IMIA board has discussed and identified the important central factors, which are essential considerations to host a scientific meeting. These factors will be used to help vet future contenders applying for the honor to host an IMIA conference: Reasonable safety and security, commitment by the host member society, freedom of travel, scientific freedom, and freedom from discrimination.
