Background: Urology, traditionally a maledominated specialty, keeping pace with the quickly changing gender landscape, has been characterized by waves of feminization. This study aims to understand the perspectives of women urologists on the obstacles to their career development, and the impact of such hurdles on their professional roles in urological education, practice, and leadership. Methods: 119 female urology residents/consultants were surveyed via a webinar-based platform, covering relevant questions on domains of Academia, Mentorship, Leadership, Parenting, and Charity. Statistical analysis was done using frequency distribution based on the responses. Results: 46.8% of the respondents felt that there is an under-representation of women in academia. ‘Having a good mentor’ was the most important factor for a novice to succeed in academia (68%). The most important trait in becoming a good leader was ‘good communication skills’ (35%), followed by ‘visionary’ (20%). The greatest challenge faced by leaders in the medical field was considered as ‘time management’ (31.9%). Only 21.2% of the participants felt difficulty in having a work-personal life balance, whereas 63.8% of them found it difficult only ‘sometimes’. As a working parent, ‘the guilt that they are not available all the time’ was considered the most difficult aspect (59.5%), and ‘more flexible schedule’ was needed to make their lives as a working parent easier (46.8%). 34% of the respondents were affiliated with some charitable organizations. The biggest drive to do charity was their satisfaction with a noble cause (72.3%). Conclusions: Need for increased encouragement and recruitment of females into urology, and to support and nurture them in their career aspirations.

This study examines the differences in mental health experiences of workers in professional and non-professional roles, with a particular focus on the influence of gender. We examine: i) the perceived mental health of a subset of professional workers including accounting, academia, dentistry, medicine, nursing, and teaching, chosen because they represent different gender composition and sectors; and ii) work stress and work absences. Statistical analyses were applied to data from the Canadian Community Health Survey and a related Mental Health and Well-Being survey. Those in the selected professions reported better mental health, higher job satisfaction, and a lower prevalence of mental disorders, but higher self-perceived life and work stress compared to workers in non-professional roles. Workers in these professions reported higher job security and higher job control, but also higher psychological demands. Women in these professions showed significantly higher physical exertion and lower job authority and higher rates of work absences.

In 2016, Denmark's nurse education eliminated diagnoses, age and care settings from the curriculum. How students are trained for homecare is unknown. This article illuminates how students of non-Danish origin were socialised into homecare practice during nurse education in Denmark. Semi-structured interviews with eight students and a theoretical inspired latent thematic analysis of data were conducted. The SRQR checklist was used. The results are presented under three themes: Unprepared students stepped out from university college, Clinical supervisors as instructive and questioned role models, and Patients and relatives acted as co-supervisors. Theoretical highlights on homecare nursing were scarce from students’ perspectives. Clinical supervisors and encounters with patients and relatives in their homes socialised students into professional roles within homecare. The organisation of education in homecare pointed to a clinical, professional socialisation of nursing students in patients’ homes rather than a theoretical socialisation with an inherent formation at university college.

Introduction. The problem of identifying the role of contemporary art thesauri in the teaching profession development has become aggravated in the context of global socio-economic changes, apparently irreversible after the COVID-19 pandemic. Contemporary art, actively exploring the reality of the digital age, makes it possible to comprehend the essence of the new in education, clearly see the ideal of a person who is in demand by the society of the 2020s, and choose a way to overcome the crisis of the teaching profession, which is no longer limited by the framework of person-to-person duality but is fundamentally open due to technology. The research purpose is to generalize scientific ideas for the study of contemporary art thesauri as a tool for developing the teaching profession in the cultural-educational space of the 21st century. The research methodology includes the thesaurus, interdisciplinary and integrated approaches; identification and systematization of units of knowledge about contemporary art through thesauri influencing the development of the profession of a teacher. The use of a thesaurus approach made it possible to identify and systematize units of knowledge about contemporary art and its educational opportunities that coincide in one way or another. An interdisciplinary approach showed the mechanism of integrating disciplines studied by future teachers with the space of modern artistic culture. An integrated approach was used to view contemporary art as a hierarchical system of a high degree of complexity in specific historical and psychological aspects. The research results contain a generalized description of the process of integrating contemporary art into education: the transition from a teacher’s professionalism to transprofessionalism through the introduction into the widespread practice of approaches that have resulted from the activities of representatives of creative professions; increasing the significance of a teacher as an organizer of cultural activities in the context of distance learning, with the emergence of new professional roles; the formation of concepts reflecting the commonality of thinking of a teacher and an author of artworks. Findings. Contemporary art thesauri help pedagogical education get to a higher level due to a new understanding of the profession of a teacher: as developing from professionalism to transprofessionalism through the assimilation of knowledge about the formation of a professional in the art sphere (“alien” becomes “own”), focused on organizing students’ cultural activities using distance technologies and new professional roles, explaining itself in terms of pedagogy and art. The field of application of research findings is the improvement of educational programs at all education levels (from the preschool establishment to university) in accordance with the requirements of state standards.
