Motivation: Pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR), which is a triangular pentapeptide repeat domain, plays an important role in plant growth. Features extracted from sequences are applicable to PPR protein identification using certain classification methods. However, which components of a multidimensional feature (namely variables) are more effective for protein discrimination has never been discussed. Therefore, we seek to select variables from a multidimensional feature for identifying PPR proteins.Method: A framework of variable selection for identifying PPR proteins is proposed. Samples representing PPR positive proteins and negative ones are equally split into a training and a testing set. Variable importance is regarded as scores derived from an iteration of resampling, training, and scoring step on the training set. A model selection method based on Gaussian mixture model is applied to automatic choice of variables which are effective to identify PPR proteins. Measurements are used on the testing set to show the effectiveness of the selected variables.Results: Certain variables other than the multidimensional feature they belong to do work for discrimination between PPR positive proteins and those negative ones. In addition, the content of methionine may play an important role in predicting PPR proteins.

In this work, we propose a no-reference method for automatic choice of the parameters of Perona-Malik image diffusion algorithm for the problem of image denoising. The idea of the approach it to analyze and quantify the presence of structures in the difference image between the noisy image and the processed image as the mutual information value. We apply the proposed method to photographic images and to retinal images with modeled Gaussian noise with different parameters and analyze the effects of no-reference parameter choice compared to the optimal results. The proposed algorithm shows the effectiveness of no-reference parameter choice for the problem of image denoising.

Building on a technique for associating Hybrid Systems (HS) to stochastic programs written in a stochastic extension of Concurrent Constraint Programming (sCCP), we will discuss several aspects of performing such association. In particular, as we proved an sCCP program can be mapped in a HS varying in a lattice at a level depending on the amount of actions to be simulated continuously, we will discuss what are the problems involved in a semi-automatic choice of such level. Decidability, semantic, and efficiency issues will be taken into account, with special emphasis on their links with biological applications. We will also discuss about the role of constraints and of the constraint store is this construction.

The main requirement to imitating modeling of military operations adequacy. Proceeding from it is necessary that the behavior of modeling objects has been as much as possible approached to behavior of real objects in the same conditions of conditions or, at least, did not contradict logic of common sense and requirements of authorized documents. It creates necessity of working out of the mechanism, allowing to formalize administrative experience of commanders of corresponding levels and automatically to deduce decisions, on the basis of parameters of a current situation and preliminary set solving rules.As a rule, in decision-making process, the commander operates with difficult formalizable information at level of complex categories. Contrary to it, the object condition in modeling system is described in the form of a set of values of concrete parameters. For transformation of set of parameters of objects to parameters of higher level the method of the analysis of hierarchies is used.Thus there is the second problem demanding the permission synthesis of the device of decision-making on the basis of the received complex concepts. Use of the mechanism of an indistinct logic conclusion for this purpose is offered. In this case preference of a choice of this or that variant of behavior is set depending on character of crossing of the indistinct sets defined by the expert which functions of an accessory are constructed on axes generated before complex parameters. In quality konsekvents solving rules in advance generated strategy of behavior of modeling objects in this connection in offered algorithm actually there is no stage defuzzyfication act, and for accumulation of the conclusions the formula of algebraic association isused. The offered approach allows to carry out an automatic choice of alternative of behavior during modeling without participation of the operator.
