AbstractIn a recently published theorem on the split common fixed point problem for strict pseudocontractive and asymptotically nonexpansive mappings, Tang et al. (J. Inequal. Appl. 2015:305, 2015) studied a uniformly convex and 2-uniformly smooth real Banach space with the Opial property and best smoothness constant κ satisfying the condition $0<\kappa < \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}$ 0 < κ < 1 2 , as a real Banach space more general than Hilbert spaces. A well-known example of a uniformly convex and 2-uniformly smooth real Banach space with the Opial property is $E=l_{p}$ E = l p , $2\leq p<\infty $ 2 ≤ p < ∞ . It is shown in this paper that, if κ is the best smoothness constant of E and satisfies the condition $0<\kappa \leq \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}$ 0 < κ ≤ 1 2 , then E is necessarily $l_{2}$ l 2 , a real Hilbert space. Furthermore, some important remarks concerning the proof of this theorem are presented.

The Opial property of Hilbert spaces is essential in many fixed point theorems of non-expansive maps. While the Opial property does not hold in every Banach space, the Bregman–Opial property does. This suggests to study fixed point theorems for various Bregman non-expansive like maps in the general Banach space setting. In this paper, after introducing the notion of Bregman generalized hybrid sequences in a reflexive Banach space, we prove (with using the Bregman–Opial property instead of the Opial property) convergence theorems for such sequences. We also provide new fixed point theorems for Bregman generalized hybrid maps defined on an arbitrary but not necessarily convex subset of a reflexive Banach space. We end this paper with a brief discussion of the existence of Bregman absolute fixed points of such maps.

In this work, we show an analogue to the Opial property for the coordinate-wise convergence in the variable exponent sequence space. This property allows us to prove a fixed point theorem for the mappings which are nonexpansive in the modular sense.

AbstractIn the present paper we introduce generalized vector-valued Musielak-Orlicz sequence spacel(A,𝓜,u,p,Δr,∥·,… ,·∥)(X) and study some geometric properties like uniformly monotone, uniform Opial property for this space. Further, we discuss the operators ofs-type and operator ideals by using the sequence ofs-number (in the sense of Pietsch) under certain conditions on matrixA.

We give an example of a Banach lattice with a non-convex modulus of monotonicity, which disproves a claim made in the literature. Results on preservation of the non-strict Opial property and Opial property under passing to general direct sums of Banach spaces are established.

The main purpose of this study is to introduce the spacescsλ,cs0λ, andbsλwhich areBK-spaces of nonabsolute type. We prove that these spaces are linearly isomorphic to the spacescs,cs0, andbs, respectively, and derive some inclusion relations. Additionally, Schauder bases of the spacescsλandcs0λhave been constructed and theα-,β-, andγ-duals of these spaces have been computed. Besides, we characterize some matrix classes from the spacescsλ,cs0λ, andbsλto the spaceslp,c, andc0, where1≤p≤∞. Finally, we examine some geometric properties of these spaces as Gurarǐ’s modulus of convexity, propertym∞, property(M), property WORTH, nonstrict Opial property, and weak fixed point property.

The Opial property of Hilbert spaces and some other special Banach spaces is a powerful tool in establishing fixed point theorems for nonexpansive and, more generally, nonspreading mappings. Unfortunately, not every Banach space shares the Opial property. However, every Banach space has a similar Bregman-Opial property for Bregman distances. In this paper, using Bregman distances, we introduce the classes of Bregman nonspreading mappings and investigate the Mann and Ishikawa iterations for these mappings. We establish weak and strong convergence theorems for Bregman nonspreading mappings.

In a Banach space with a basis we define a similar norm to the norm shown by Lin to makel1into a space with FPP and make a comparative study of certain geometric properties such as the Opial property, WNS, and uniform nonsquareness of the original space and the space with the new norm.
