We give an asymptotic upper bound for the kth twisted eigenvalue of the linearized Allen–Cahn operator in terms of the kth eigenvalue of the Jacobi operator, taken with respect to the minimal surface arising as the asymptotic limit of the zero sets of the Allen–Cahn critical points. We use an argument based on the notion of second inner variation developed in Le (On the second inner variations of Allen–Cahn type energies and applications to local minimizers. J. Math. Pures Appl. (9) 103 (2015) 1317–1345).

In this paper, we introduce the notion of normal Jacobi operator of Codazzi type for real hypersurfaces in the complex hyperbolic quadric [Formula: see text]. The normal Jacobi operator of Codazzi type implies that the unit normal vector field [Formula: see text] becomes [Formula: see text]-principal or [Formula: see text]-isotropic. Then according to each case, we give a complete classification of Hopf real hypersurfaces in [Formula: see text] with normal Jacobi operator of Codazzi type. The result of the classification shows that no such hypersurfaces exist.

In this paper, from the property of Killing for structure Jacobi tensor $\mathbb {R}_{\xi }$ , we introduce a new notion of cyclic parallelism of structure Jacobi operator $R_{\xi }$ on real hypersurfaces in the complex two-plane Grassmannians. By virtue of geodesic curves, we can give the equivalent relation between cyclic parallelism of $R_{\xi }$ and Killing property of $\mathbb {R}_{\xi }$ . Then, we classify all Hopf real hypersurfaces with cyclic parallel structure Jacobi operator in complex two-plane Grassmannians.

We prove that the characteristic Jacobi operator on a contact metric three manifold is semiparallel if and only if it vanishes. We determine Lie groups of dimension three admitting left invariant contact metric structures such that the characteristic Jacobi operators are pseudoparallel.

AbstractWe address the computational spectral theory of Jacobi operators that are compact perturbations of the free Jacobi operator via the asymptotic properties of a connection coefficient matrix. In particular, for Jacobi operators that are finite-rank perturbations we show that the computation of the spectrum can be reduced to a polynomial root finding problem, from a polynomial that is derived explicitly from the entries of a connection coefficient matrix. A formula for the spectral measure of the operator is also derived explicitly from these entries. The analysis is extended to trace-class perturbations. We address issues of computability in the framework of the Solvability Complexity Index, proving that the spectrum of compact perturbations of the free Jacobi operator is computable in finite time with guaranteed error control in the Hausdorff metric on sets.

Along a transversal geodesic γ whose tangent belongs to the contact distribution D, we define the transversal Jacobi operator Rγ=R(·,γ˙)γ˙ on an almost contact Riemannian manifold M. Then, using the transversal Jacobi operator Rγ, we give a new characterization of the Sasakian sphere. In the second part, we characterize the complete ruled real hypersurfaces in complex hyperbolic space.
