In this paper, the design and optimization method of rocket parameters based on the surrogate model and the trajectory simulation system of the 3-DOF air-launched rockets were established. The Gaussian kernel width determination method based on the relationship between local density and width is used to ensure the efficiency and reliability of the optimization method, and at the same time greatly reduces the amount of calculation. An adaptive sampling point updating method was established, which includes three stages: location sampling, exploration sampling, and potential optimal sampling of the potential feasible region. The adaptive sampling is realized by the distance constraint. Based on the precision of the surrogate model, the convergence end criterion was established, which can achieve efficient and reliable probabilistic global optimization. The objective function of the optimization problem was deduced to determine the maximum load mass and reasonable constraints were set to ensure that the rocket could successfully enter orbit. For solid engine rockets with the same take-off mass as Launcherone, the launch altitude and target orbit were optimized and analyzed, and verified by 3-DOF trajectory simulation. The surrogate-based optimization algorithm solved the problem of the overall parameter design optimization of the air-launched rocket and it provides support for the design of air-launched solid rockets.

This paper investigates the capability of a surrogate-based optimization technique for the advanced design of centrifugal pumps. The centrifugal pump considered in this work is designed for the automotive cooling system and consists of an impeller, a vaneless diffuser and a volute. A fully three-dimensional geometry parametrization based on Bézier surfaces is presented. The optimization procedure includes the following software packages: Scilab for the geometric parametrization, Ansys-CFX for the CFD simulations and DAKOTA for the optimization management. The initial geometry is defined by a 0D code that provides a preliminary design of the pump, given the operating conditions, i.e., the volumetric flow rate, the head and the rotating speed. In this work an operative point typical of high performance gasoline cars is considered.

Geometric parameters of 4D printed bilayer structure determine its deformation to a great extent. This paper proposed a geometric design method of 4D printed bilayer structures for accurate folding deformation. To precisely calculate the deformation, a folding deformation model of 4D printed bilayer structure is constructed considering thickness ratio and elastic modulus ratio. Then, for a target folding deformation, an adaptive surrogate-based optimization method is employed to obtain the geometric parameters of a given 4D printed bilayer structure. The numerical and physical experimental results show that the geometric parameters of 4D printed bilayer structure can be well designed by the proposed method.

Performing shape optimization of blended-wing-body underwater glider (BWBUG) can significantly improve its gliding performance. However, high-fidelity CFD analysis and geometric constraint calculation in traditional surrogate-based optimization methods are expensive. An efficient surrogate-based optimization method based on the multifidelity model and geometric constraint gradient information is proposed. By establishing a shape parameterized model, deriving analytical expression of geometric constraint gradient, constructing multifidelity surrogate model, the calculation times of high-fidelity CFD model and geometric constraints are reduced during the shape optimization process of BWBUG, which greatly improve the optimization efficiency. Finally, the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method are verified by performing the shape optimization of a BWBUG and comparing with traditional surrogate-based optimization methods.
