In the optimization of problems in dynamic environments, algorithms need to not only find the global optimal solutions in a specific environment but also to continuously track the moving optimal solutions over dynamic environments. To address this requirement, a species conservation-based particle swarm optimization (PSO), combined with a spatial neighbourhood best searching technique, is proposed. This algorithm employs a species conservation technique to save the found optima distributed in the search space, and these saved optima either transferred into the new population or replaced by the better individual within a certain distance in the subsequent evolution. The particles in the population are attracted by its history best and the optimal solution nearby based on the Euclidean distance other than the index-based. An experimental study is conducted based on the moving peaks benchmark to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm in comparison with several state-of-the-art algorithms widely used in dynamic optimization problems. The experimental results show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm for tracking the moving optima in dynamic environments.

Swarm intelligence algorithms are amongst the most efficient approaches toward solving optimization problems. Up to now, most of swarm intelligence approaches have been proposed for optimization in static environments. However, numerous real-world problems are dynamic which could not be solved using static approaches. In this paper, a novel approach based on artificial fish swarm algorithm (AFSA) has been proposed for optimization in dynamic environments in which changes in the problem space occur in discrete intervals. The proposed algorithm can quickly find the peaks in the problem space and track them after an environment change. In this algorithm, artificial fish swarms are responsible for finding and tracking peaks and several behaviors and mechanisms are employed to cope with the dynamic environment. Extensive experiments show that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms previous algorithms in most of tested dynamic environments modeled by moving peaks benchmark.

In this paper, a new evolutionary algorithm based on a membrane system is proposed to solve the dynamic or uncertain optimization problems. The proposed algorithm employs objects, a dynamical membrane structure and several reaction rules of the membrane systems. The object represents a candidate solution of the optimization problems. The dynamical structure consists of the nested membranes where a skin membrane contains several membranes, which is useful for the proposed algorithm that finds optimal solutions. The reaction rules are designed to locate and track the optimal solutions of the dynamic optimization problems (DOPs), which are inspired by processing the chemical compounds in the region of cellular membranes. Experimental study is conducted based on the moving peaks benchmark to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm in comparison with three state-of-the-art dynamic optimization algorithms. The results indicate the proposed algorithm is effective to solve the DOPs.

Chaos is a non-linear phenomenon that widely exists in the nature. Due to the ease of implementation and its special ability to avoid being trapped in local optima, chaos has been a novel optimization technique and chaos-based searching algorithms have aroused intense interests. Many real world optimization problems are dynamic in which global optimum and local optima change over time. Particle swarm optimization has performed well to find and track optima in static environments. When the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is used in dynamic multi-objective problems, there exist some problems, such as easily falling into prematurely, having slow convergence rate and so on. To solve above problems, a hybrid PSO algorithm based on chaos algorithm is brought forward. The hybrid PSO algorithm not only has the efficient parallelism but also increases the diversity of population because of the chaos algorithm. The simulation result shows that the new algorithm is prior to traditional PSO algorithm, having stronger adaptability and convergence, solving better the question on moving peaks benchmark.

This algorithm is based on multiple trajectory searches and saving the optima found to use them when a change is detected in the environment. The proposed algorithm is analyzed using the Moving Peaks Benchmark, and its performances are compared to competing dynamic optimization algorithms on several instances of this benchmark. The obtained results show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, even in multimodal environments.
