With suitable Pt4+ loading for galvanic replacement, Pt clusters will fill in the defect sites on Ni@Pd–Pt (step 1 and step 2). In this event, the overlap between O2 splitting and hydration kinetics optimize the ORR activity of a Pt cluster decorated Ni@Pd NC.
