AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has spurred clinical and scientific interest in the cardiology community because of the significantly enhanced vulnerability of patients with underlying cardiac diseases. COVID-19 vaccination is therefore of vital importance to the patients we see in our clinics and hospitals every day and should be promoted by the medical community, especially cardiologists. In view of vaccine-preventable diseases, the association between influenza and cardiovascular complications has been widely investigated. Several studies have found a substantially elevated risk of hospital admission for acute myocardial infarction in the first 7 days after laboratory-confirmed influenza, with incidence ratios ranging from 6.05–8.89. The effectiveness of the influenza vaccine to protect against acute myocardial infarction is about 29%. This effectiveness is comparable to or even better than that of existing secondary preventive therapies, such as statins (prevention rate approximately 36%), antihypertensives (prevention rate approximately 15–18%), and smoking cessation (prevention rate approximately 26%). As the influenza season is rapidly approaching, this Point of View article serves as a call to action: Cardiologists should promote influenza vaccination and actively advice their patients to get the seasonal influenza vaccination.

Abstract Background Adoption of molecular pathology in Brazil is currently very limited. Of note, there are no programs for training new molecular pathologists in the country; thus, documents compiling nationally applicable information on molecular pathology are few. Methods A selected panel of Brazilian experts in fields related to molecular pathology were provided with a series of relevant questions to address prior to the multi-day conference. Within this conference, each narrative was discussed and edited by the entire group, through numerous drafts and rounds of discussion until a consensus was achieved. Results The panel proposes specific and realistic recommendations for implementing molecular pathology in cancer care in Brazil. In creating these recommendations, the authors strived to address all barriers to the widespread use and impediments to access mentioned previously within this manuscript. Conclusion This manuscript provides a review of molecular pathology principles as well as the current state of molecular pathology in Brazil. Additionally, the panel proposes practical and actionable recommendations for the implementation of molecular pathology throughout the country in order to increase awareness of the importance molecular pathology in Brazil.

Perceptions on leadership training to sustain teachers of color vary in approaches, ideologies, and values. However, what evidence is within the literature to depict what effective principals do to retain, in particular, African American teachers?  In the present study, the authors have reviewed the literature from 2011-2020 through the lens of Critical Learning Theory. This examination led to an extrapolation of categories that indirectly embed social justice as a tool utilized for retaining African American teachers. Nevertheless, many well-known strategies utilized to promote the retention of present-day African American teachers do not include this motivating call-to-action within the parameters of their approach or training of principals. Social justice is an effective tool for supporting Generation X students who willfully and actively participate in digital and physical campaigns against systematic racial injustice. Therefore, educational leaders should transcend authoritative leadership and systematic racism with social justice as a pivotal strategy for teachers of color.

Awareness and visibility of transgender individuals have grown exponentially. However, conceptualizing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) as “women's” or “men's” health services further marginalizes transgender and gender-expansive (TGE) youth. Multiple reviews and commentaries have been published on the topic of SRH care for adults under the umbrella term of sexual and gender minorities, all with a call to action for more inclusive care and the need for more clinical research involving TGE individuals, and notably, TGE youth. Results from adult TGE studies are often translated to describe adolescent models. However, models specific to adolescent TGE populations are needed to understand their unique SRH needs. This review will describe the current literature relating to SRH needs of TGE youth and adults, highlighting key areas with significant disparities in need of further research. This comprehensive summary will also provide recommendations for clinicians and researchers with the goal of improving SRH care and obtaining wider representation in both clinical settings and research directed toward TGE youth.
