The title compound, C6H11NO2·2H2O2, is the richest (by molar ratio) in hydrogen peroxide among the peroxosolvates of aliphatic α-amino acids. The asymmetric unit contains a zwitterionic pipecolinic acid molecule and two hydrogen peroxide molecules. The two crystallographically independent hydrogen peroxide molecules form a different number of hydrogen bonds: one forms two as donor and two as acceptor ([2,2] mode) and the other forms two as donor and one as acceptor ([2,1] mode). The latter hydrogen peroxide molecule forms infinite hydrogen-bonded hydroperoxo chains running along the c-axis direction, which is unusual for aliphatic α-amino acid peroxosolvates.

In this study, a convenient and highly efficient catalytic system for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction was investigated under mild conditions. A combination of Pd(CH3CN)2Cl2 and pipecolinic acid showed excellent catalytic performance and afforded high turnover numbers; turnover numbers were up to 4.9 × 105 for the coupling reaction of 4-bromobenzoic acid and tetraphenylboron sodium. The catalytic system was also effective for the indexes of 4-bromobenzoic acid, and high turnover numbers were obtained.

An efficient synthesis of naturally occurring 1,2- and 1,3-amino alcohol unit containing 2-substituted piperidine alkaloids and their analogues has been developed from l-pipecolinic acid. The protocol describes the regio- and stereoselective oxymercuration–demercuration of 2-alkenyl piperidines based on protecting groups to give piperidine alkaloids as a key step.
