The APS Advanced Planning System is a tool that brings competitive advantages in the optimization and manufacturing planning, allowing the efficient use of human and material resources, and in logistical integration, covering all production cycles. These points are fundamental in the manufacturing industry and represent a field of improvement opportunities. This work addresses the use of the Design Science Research methodology in the development of an advanced production and scheduling system, suggesting some improvements such as flexibility, reduction of human and other systems dependencies, and also the application of intelligent algorithms, aligned with the latest advances related to industry 4.0 and digital transformation.,

Background: Planning and scheduling of manufacturing enterprises are required to be rapid and accurate, which make is easy for the traditional enterprise resource planning system to meet the needs of enterprises. Objective: This paper introduces the theory of constraints and explains the control methods for production planning and scheduling. Methods: The main characteristics of the advanced planning and scheduling system are analyzed. Then, the modeling method based on the theory of constraints is used to study the scheduling path. Results: An example is given to validate the scheduling model and realize the optimization of production tasks on the bottleneck resources. Conclusion: The feasibility of the advanced planning and scheduling methods based on the theory of constraints is proved.

Industrial planning systems have undergone considerable evolution in recent decades, starting from MRP, then ERP, and finally advanced planning and scheduling systems (APS). This evolution took place by dint of the evolution of information and communication technologies, and also due to industrial stakeholder integration tendency forming global supply chains in order to optimize costs and lead times. The purpose of this article is to present a new integrated short and medium term planning approach for upstream logistics (necessary for procurement) and production, this new approach is the MLRP "Manufacturing and Logistic Requirement Planning ". We introduce in this paper a new bill of materials structure that is adapted to the MLRP, and then we present the proposed algorithm which allows determining production and logistics needs for all bills of materials components. Finally, we present the proposed information system that implements the MLRP.
