Abstract Effect algebras form a formal algebraic description of the structure of the so-called effects in a Hilbert space which serve as an event-state space for effects in quantum mechanics. This is why effect algebras are considered as logics of quantum mechanics, more precisely as an algebraic semantics of these logics. Because every productive logic is equipped with implication, we introduce here such a concept and demonstrate its properties. In particular, we show that this implication is connected with conjunction via a certain “unsharp” residuation which is formulated on the basis of a strict unsharp residuated poset. Though this structure is rather complicated, it can be converted back into an effect algebra and hence it is sound. Further, we study the Modus Ponens rule for this implication by means of so-called deductive systems and finally we study the contraposition law.

The aim of this paper is to define and study the involutive and weakly involutive quantum B-algebras. We prove that any weakly involutive quantum B-algebra is a residuated poset. As an application, we introduce and investigate the notions of existential and universal quantifiers on involutive quantum B-algebras. It is proved that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the quantifiers on weakly involutive quantum B-algebras. One of the main results consists of proving that any pair of quantifiers is a monadic operator on weakly involutive quantum B-algebras. We investigate the relationship between quantifiers on bounded sup-commutative pseudo BCK-algebras and quantifiers on other related algebraic structures, such as pseudo MV-algebras and bounded Wajsberg hoops.

Since orthomodular posets serve as an algebraic axiomatization of the logic of quantum mechanics, it is a natural question how the connective of implication can be defined in this logic. It should be introduced in such a way that it is related with conjunction, i.e. with the partial operation meet, by means of some kind of adjointness. We present here such an implication for which a so-called unsharp residuated poset can be constructed. Then this implication is connected with the operation meet by the so-called unsharp adjointness. We prove that also conversely, under some additional assumptions, such an unsharp residuated poset can be converted into an orthomodular poset and that this assignment is nearly one-to-one.

We show that every complemented modular lattice can be converted into a left residuated lattice where the binary operations of multiplication and residuum are term operations. The concept of an operator left residuated poset was introduced by the authors recently. We show that every strongly modular poset with complementation as well as every strictly modular poset with complementation can be organized into an operator left residuated poset in such a way that the corresponding operators [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] can be expressed by means of the operators [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in posets. We describe connections between the operator left residuation in these posets and the residuation in their lattice completion. We also present examples of strongly modular and strictly modular posets.

Abstract It is well known that every MV-algebra can be converted into a residuated lattice satisfying divisibility and the double negation law. In a previous paper the first author and J. Kühr introduced the concept of an NMV-algebra which is a non-associative modification of an MV-algebra. The natural question arises if an NMV-algebra can be converted into a residuated structure, too. Contrary to MV-algebras, NMV-algebras are not based on lattices but only on directed posets and the binary operation need not be associative and hence we cannot expect to obtain a residuated lattice but only an essentially weaker structure called a conditionally residuated poset. Considering several additional natural conditions we show that every NMV-algebra can be converted in such a structure. Also conversely, every such structure can be organized into an NMV-algebra. Further, we study an a bit more stronger version of an algebra where the binary operation is even monotone. We show that such an algebra can be organized into a residuated poset and, conversely, every residuated poset can be converted in this structure.

Using the operators of taking upper and lower cones in a poset with a unary operation, we define operators [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in the sense of multiplication and residuation, respectively, and we show that by using these operators, a general modification of residuation can be introduced. A relatively pseudocomplemented poset can be considered as a prototype of such an operator residuated poset. As main results, we prove that every Boolean poset as well as every pseudo-orthomodular poset can be organized into a (left) operator residuated structure. Some results on pseudo-orthomodular posets are presented which show the analogy to orthomodular lattices and orthomodular posets.

The aim of the present paper is to generalize the concept of residuated poset, by replacing the usual partial ordering by a generic binary relation, giving rise to relational systems which are residuated. In particular, we modify the definition of adjointness in such a way that the ordering relation can be harmlessly replaced by a binary relation. By enriching such binary relation with additional properties, we get interesting properties of residuated relational systems which are analogical to those of residuated posets and lattices.
