In recent years, polymorphonuclear leukocytes have been proven to play an important role in the development of diabetes mellitus (DM). Neutrophil dysfunction contributes to pancreatic tissue damage as well as an increased susceptibility to infection in type 1 DM (T1DM) patients. Objective. The objective of this study was to investigate the functional activity of neutrophil granulocytes (NGs) in children with T1DM. Materials and Methods. This study involved 25 children aged 7?15 years. To evaluate programmed cell death, the number of NGs expressing apoptosis markers (CD95, CD95L and BCL2) was determined. The functional activity of NGs was determined in terms of phagocytosis and the levels of myeloperoxidase, lysosomal cationic proteins and active oxygen radicals. Results. A reduction in the bactericidal activity of NGs with deficiencies in phagocytosis, secretion of active oxygen radicals and functional reserve was found. An increase in the apoptotic potential of NGs was demonstrated, which was accompanied by an increase in CD95 expression and a decrease in BCL2 expression. An increase in the cytotoxic potential of neutrophils in the form of enhanced levels of myeloperoxidase and lysosomal cationic proteins was revealed. Conclusions. Therefore, an increase in the apoptotic potential of NGs associated with functional and metabolic changes may reflect the active involvement of NGs in the immunopathogenesis of T1DM.

In this study, the antioxidant activity of sasanquasaponin fromCamellia oleifera Abel.was determined by various antioxidant assays. The results of reducing power of sample indicated sasanquasaponin were electron donors and could react with free radicals to convert them into more stable products, terminating the radical chain reactions. The results indicated that sasanquasaponin can clear active oxygen radicals producing in the chemical reactions and have stronger antioxidant ability. Therefore they could be used as natural antioxidant that are stable at high temperatures and can serve as substitutes for synthetic antioxidants.

AbstractBa1-xSrxTiO3 thin films have been deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substra by the pulsed ArF laser deposition method. Deposition conditions, such as ambient gas and substrt temperatze, have been optmized to rrxove crystallinepropesty. Fe oelectric p e phasehasbeenobtainod ithe BSTthin filns deposited above 500°C in Q2 gas havingpressure ofabout 13Pa. Using N2O gas instead of O2 gas improved the crystallinity, because highly chemical active oxygen radicals produced due to ultraviolet inadiation of the laser. Doping of Bi ranging around 2% fills of the role of decrease leakage current of BST thin films. Temperature dependence of the dielectric constant (εr) shows a sharp change, peaking aroumd room temperature. The peak point exists below 25°C in the ratio of Ba/Sr=1.1 film, and shills above 50°C in Ba/Sr=5.7 film. When the Ba/Sr ratio is 1.4 the dielectric peak exists near 27°C and is very sharp. The maxinium differentW rate of dielectric constanttversus temperature is the largest in Ba/Sr=1.4 film and is about 100K-1. This value is equivalent to apyroelectric coefficient of 1.8 × 10-7 C/cm2K, which is almost the same as that of LiTaO3 single crystl, a typical pyroelectric material.
