The underlying function in reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) may be degraded by outliers or deviations, resulting in a symmetry ill-posed problem. This paper proposes a nonconvex minimization model with ℓ0-quasi norm based on RKHS to depict this degraded problem. The underlying function in RKHS can be represented by the linear combination of reproducing kernels and their coefficients. Thus, we turn to estimate the related coefficients in the nonconvex minimization problem. An efficient algorithm is designed to solve the given nonconvex problem by the mathematical program with equilibrium constraints (MPEC) and proximal-based strategy. We theoretically prove that the sequences generated by the designed algorithm converge to the nonconvex problem’s local optimal solutions. Numerical experiment also demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract Online learning is a classical algorithm for optimization problems. Due to its low computational cost, it has been widely used in many aspects of machine learning and statistical learning. Its convergence performance depends heavily on the step size. In this paper, a two-stage step size is proposed for the unregularized online learning algorithm, based on reproducing Kernels. Theoretically, we prove that, such an algorithm can achieve a nearly min–max convergence rate, up to some logarithmic term, without any capacity condition.

AbstractLet $$\Omega $$ Ω be a smooth, bounded, convex domain in $${\mathbb {R}}^n$$ R n and let $$\Lambda _k$$ Λ k be a finite subset of $$\Omega $$ Ω . We find necessary geometric conditions for $$\Lambda _k$$ Λ k to be interpolating for the space of multivariate polynomials of degree at most k. Our results are asymptotic in k. The density conditions obtained match precisely the necessary geometric conditions that sampling sets are known to satisfy and are expressed in terms of the equilibrium potential of the convex set. Moreover we prove that in the particular case of the unit ball, for k large enough, there are no bases of orthogonal reproducing kernels in the space of polynomials of degree at most k.

AbstractThe aim of the paper is to create a link between the theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS) and the notion of a unitary representation of a group or of a groupoid. More specifically, it is demonstrated on one hand how to construct a positive definite kernel and an RKHS for a given unitary representation of a group(oid), and on the other hand how to retrieve the unitary representation of a group or a groupoid from a positive definite kernel defined on that group(oid) with the help of the Moore–Aronszajn theorem. The kernel constructed from the group(oid) representation is inspired by the kernel defined in terms of the convolution of functions on a locally compact group. Several illustrative examples of reproducing kernels related with unitary representations of groupoids are discussed in detail. The paper is concluded with the brief overview of the possible applications of the proposed constructions.
