The transition probabilities for individual and multiplet lines between some excited levels of atomic potassium are calculated using weakest bound electron potential model theory (WBEPMT). The numerical nonrelativistic Hartree–Fock wave functions for the expectation values of radii in all excited states, unlike the Numerical Coulomb Approximation method traditionally used for WBEPMT and experimental ionization energies, have been employed to determine the parameters. The results obtained during this work agree very well with the accepted values taken from National Institute Standards and Technology. Moreover, some transition probabilities not existing on the data bases for highly excited levels in atomic potassium have been obtained using this method. PACS No.: 32.70.Cs

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is an emerging automotive transmission technology that offers a continuum of gear ratios between desired limits. The present research focuses on developing models to understand the influence of clearance on the dynamic performance of a chain CVT drive. Clearances may arise in such a CVT during the assembly process or during extensive continual operation of the system, which further leads to wear and failure of the system. A detailed planar multibody model of a chain CVT is developed in order to accurately capture the dynamics characterized by the discrete structure of the chain, which causes polygonal excitations in the system. A suitable model for clearance between the chain links is embedded into this multibody model of the chain CVT. Friction between the chain link and the pulley sheaves is modeled using continuous Coulomb approximation theory. The mathematical models, the computational scheme, and the results corresponding to different loading scenarios are discussed. The results discuss the influence of clearance parameters on the dynamic performance, the axial force requirements, and the torque transmitting capacity of a chain CVT drive.

By using the semiclassical perturbation approach, Stark broadening parameters due to the interaction with a selection of perturbers of interest for recently published experimental results for Li - like B III, C IV, N V and O VI 3s2S-3p2Po, and for Be - like B II, C III, N IV and O V 3s3S-3p3Po multiplets, have been calculated. The results are presented as a function of temperature for a perturber density of 1017cm?3. The influence of resonance contribution for B II, differences in Stark broadening parameters if we take oscillator strengths calculated within the Coulomb approximation or taken from TOP Database, and the influence of transitions with different parent terms, have been discussed as well.
