Abstract Mesoporous silica network nanotubes were fabricated using both organic and inorganic templates such as citric acid (CA), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and sodium bicarbonate (SBC). The phase analysis of synthesized silica network was confirmed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) analysis, and the present functional groups were revealed by Fourier Transformer Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and the formation of tubular morphology was analyzed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The mesoporous nature of each template sample was studied using Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) instrument. The surface area and porous size were calculated successfully for fabricated silica network nanotubes.

Porous ion-exchanging resorcinol-formaldehyde resins were prepared by removing an inorganic template (CaCO3) and by polymerization of a highly concentrated emulsion with toluene as a dispersing phase. As compared to original resorcinol-formaldehyde resins, the porous one is characterized with higher values of internal diffusion, providing exceptional purification coefficients. However, the amounts of the introduced CaCO3 and toluene have to be below 10 wt.% and 25 wt.%, respectively, to avoid fast degradation of the ion-exchanger. Under dynamic conditions, average purification coefficients in the model solution of Cs-137 are twice higher than those of the non-porous sample. The prepared porous ion-exchange resin can be used in cases when high Cs-137 uptake from liquid media should be realized at increased rates of solution percolation.

AbstractUsing a hard exotemplate procedure, hierarchically structured carbonaceous foams have been designed, using silica monolith as inorganic template and phenolic resin as carbon precursor. The open cell carbonaceous monoliths exhibit specific surface areas from 500 to 800 m2.g-1, essentially based on microporosity and macropores ranging from 0.05 up to 50 μm. Application as electrochemical energy storage devices have been checked and discuss inhere.
