The oscillatory theory of fourth order differential equations has not yet been developed well enough. The results are known only for the case when the coefficients of differential equations are power functions. This fact can be explained by the absence of simple effective methods for studying such higher order equations. In this paper, the authors investigate the oscillatory properties of a class of fourth order differential equations by the variational method. The presented variational method allows to consider any arbitrary functions as coefficients, and our main results depend on their boundary behavior in neighborhoods of zero and infinity. Moreover, this variational method is based on the validity of a certain weighted differential inequality of Hardy type, which is of independent interest. The authors of the article also find two-sided estimates of the least constant for this inequality, which are especially important for their applications to the main results on the oscillatory properties of these differential equations.

Abstract This paper presents the explicit inverse of a class of seven-diagonal (near) Toeplitz matrices, which arises in the numerical solutions of nonlinear fourth-order differential equation with a finite difference method. A non-recurrence explicit inverse formula is derived using the Sherman-Morrison formula. Related to the fixed-point iteration used to solve the differential equation, we show the positivity of the inverse matrix and construct an upper bound for the norms of the inverse matrix, which can be used to predict the convergence of the method.

This paper systematically investigates a class of fourth-order differential equation with p -Laplacian on infinite interval in Banach space. By means of the monotone iterative technique, we establish not only the existence of positive solutions but also iterative schemes under the suitable conditions. At last, we give an example to demonstrate the application of the main result.

Specific sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of a linear homogeneous fourthorder integro-differential equation of the Volterra type are established in the case when all nonzero solutions of the corresponding fourth-order differential equation do not have the property of asymptotic stability of the solutions. In this paper, we obtain estimates on the semiaxis of the solution and the derivative up to the third order.

In this work the existence and nonexistence of stationary radial solutions to the elliptic partial differential equation arising in the molecular beam epitaxy are studied. Since we are interested in radial solutions we arrive at the following fourth-order differential equation

We introduce M v b -metric to generalize and improve M v -metric and unify numerous existing distance notions. Further, we define topological notions like open ball, closed ball, convergence of a sequence, Cauchy sequence, and completeness of the space to discuss topology on M v b -metric space and to create an environment for the survival of a unique fixed point. Also, we introduce a notion of a fixed circle and a fixed disc to study the geometry of the set of nonunique fixed points of a discontinuous self-map and establish fixed circle and fixed disc theorems. Further, we verify all these results by illustrative examples to demonstrate the authenticity of the postulates. Towards the end, we solve a fourth order differential equation arising in the bending of an elastic beam.

In this paper, we consider a non-self-adjoint boundary value problem for a fourth-order differential equation of mixed type with Hilfer operator of fractional integro-differentiation in a positive rectangular domain and with spectral parameter in a negative rectangular domain. The mixed type differential equation under consideration is a fourth order differential equation with respect to the second variable. Regarding the first variable, this equation is a fractional differential equation in the positive part of the segment, and is a second-order differential equation with spectral parameter in the negative part of this segment. A rational method of solving a nonlocal problem with respect to the Hilfer operator is proposed. Using the spectral method of separation of variables, the solution of the problem is constructed in the form of Fourier series. Theorems on the existence and uniqueness of the problem are proved for regular values of the spectral parameter. For sufficiently large positive integers in unique determination of the integration constants in solving countable systems of differential equations, the problem of small denominators arises. Therefore, to justify the unique solvability of this problem, it is necessary to show the existence of values of the spectral parameter such that the quantity we need is separated from zero for sufficiently large \(n\). For irregular values of the spectral parameter, an infinite number of solutions in the form of Fourier series are constructed. Illustrative examples are provided.

We study the oscillatory behavior of a class of fourth-order differential equations and establish sufficient conditions for oscillation of a fourth-order differential equation with middle term. Our theorems extend and complement a number of related results reported in the literature. One example is provided to illustrate the main results.
