A Gram-negative, motile, rod-shaped bacteria, designated D7T, was isolated by using the dilution-to-extinction method, from a soil sample taken from Rambla Salada (Murcia, Spain). Growth of strain D7T was observed at 15–40 °C (optimum, 37 °C), pH 5–9 (optimum, 7) and 0–7.5% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3%). It is facultatively anaerobic. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence showed it belongs to the genus Marinobacterium. The in silico DDH and ANI against closest Marinobacterium relatives support its placement as a new species within this genus. The major fatty acids of strain D7T were C16:0, summed feature 3 (C16:1 ω7c/C16:1 ω6c) and summed feature 8 (C18:1 ω7c/C18:1 ω6c). The polar lipid profile consists of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and two uncharacterized lipids. Ubiquinone 8 was the unique isoprenoid quinone detected. The DNA G + C content was 59.2 mol%. On the basis of the phylogenetic, phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genomic characterization, strain D7T (= CECT 9818T = LMG 31312T) represents a novel species of the genus Marinobacterium for which the name Marinobacterium ramblicola sp. nov. is proposed. Genome-based metabolic reconstructions of strain D7T suggested a heterotrophic and chemolitotrophic lifestyle, as well as the capacity to biosynthetize and catabolize compatible solutes, and to degrade hydrocarbon aromatic compounds.

A novel, slightly halophilic bacterium, designated TBZ202T, was isolated from water of Urmia Lake, in the Azerbaijan region of north-west Iran. The strain was facultatively anaerobic, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped and motile. Colonies were creamy, circular, convex and shiny. It grew at NaCl concentrations of 0–12 % (w/v) (optimum 3–5 % w/v), at temperatures of 20–45 °C (optimum 30 °C) and at pH 5.0–10.0 (optimum pH 7.0). Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence, strain TBZ202T belongs to the genus Halomonas in the Halomonadaceae and the most closely related species are Halomonas gudaonensis CGMCC 1.6133T (98.6 % similarity), Halomonas ventosae Al12T (96.8 %) and Halomonas rambilicola RS-16T (96.6%). The G+C content was 67.9 % and the digital DNA–DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values with H. gudaonensis were 35.8 and 83.8 %, respectively, indicating that the isolate differs from all species described. The major fatty acids were C18 : 1 ω7c, C16 : 0 and C16 : 1 ω7c. The only respiratory quinone detected was Q-9 and polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, aminophospholipid and three unknown phospholipids. On the basis of a polyphasic taxonomic analysis, the isolate is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Halomonas , for which the name Halomonas azerbaijanica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TBZ202T (=KCTC 62817T=CECT 9693T).

A Gram-stain-positive, slightly halophilic, endospore-forming, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium, designated SKP7-4T, was isolated from shrimp paste collected from Samut Sakhon province, Thailand. Strain SKP7-4T grew at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, 7.5), at 20–40 °C (37 °C) and in 0–15 % (w/v) NaCl (1–3 %). The diamino acid found in the cell-wall peptidoglycan was meso-diaminopimelic acid. Menaquinone with seven isoprene units was the major isoprenoid quinone. Diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and three unidentified phospholipids were detected as polar lipids. It contained iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0 as major cellular fatty acids. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain SKP7-4T belonged to the genus Bacillus and was closely related to Bacillus vietnamensis JCM 11124T, Bacillus marisflavi JCM 11544T, Bacillus aquimaris JCM 11545T and B acillus oryzaecorticis JCM 19602T, with 98.7, 97.9, 97.8 and 97.8 % similarity, respectively. The draft genome of SKP7-4T was 4.68 Mb with 5208 coding sequences with an average G+C content of 43.2 mol%. The ANIb and ANIm values of strain SKP7-4T were 70.0 and 84.3 %, respectively, and the digital DNA–DNA hybridization value was 20 % in comparison with the draft genome of B. vietnamensis JCM 11124T. On the basis of the results of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic analyses, the strain should represent a novel species of the genus Bacillus and the name Bacillus salacetis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SKP7-4T (=JCM 33205T=KCTC 43014T=TISTR 2596T).

A Gram-stain-negative, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped, motile, facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated CAU 1059T, was isolated from a seawater sample from Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. The bacterium grew optimally at 37 °C, at pH 7.0 and in the presence of 2 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain CAU 1059T belonged to the genus Roseovarius. It exhibited only 91.5–96.9 % sequence similarity to the type strains of recognized Roseovarius species. Similar to other species of the genus Roseovarius, strain CAU 1059T had ubiquinone-10 (Q-10) as the predominant ubiquinone and C16 : 0 and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c/ω6c) as the major fatty acids. The polar lipid pattern consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine; three unidentified phospholipids, two aminolipids, an aminophospholipid and nine other lipids were also found. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 61.9 mol%. On the basis of the data provided, strain CAU 1059T should be classified as representing a novel species of the genus Roseovarius, for which the name Roseovarius aquimarinus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CAU 1059T ( = KCTC 32014T = CCUG 64792T).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-endospore-forming, non-pigmented, rod-shaped, slightly halophilic bacterium, designated GBPy5T, was isolated from aquatic plants of the Gomishan wetland, Iran. Cells of strain GBPy5T were motile. Growth occurred with between 1 and 10 % (w/v) NaCl and the isolate grew optimally with 3 % (w/v) NaCl. The optimum pH and temperature for growth of the strain were pH 8.0 and 30 °C, respectively, while it was able to grow over a pH range of 6.5–9.0 and a temperature range of 4–35 °C. Phylogenetic analysis, based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, revealed that strain GBPy5T is a member of the genus Pseudomonas forming a monophyletic branch. The novel strain exhibited 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 95.4 % with type strains of Pseudomonas guariconensis PCAVU11T and Pseudomonas sabulinigri J64T, respectively. The major cellular fatty acids of the isolate were C18 : 1ω7c (37.8 %), C16 : 0 (14.9 %), C16 : 1ω7c (12.9 %), C12 : 0 3-OH (7.1 %) and C12 : 0 (7.0 %). The polar lipid pattern of strain GBPy5T comprised phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and one phospholipid. Ubiquinone 9 (Q-9) was the predominant lipoquinone. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain GBPy5T was 59.2 mol%. On the basis of the phenotypic and phylogenetic data, strain GBPY5T represents a novel species of the genus Pseudomonas , for which the name Pseudomonas salegens sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is GBPy5T ( = IBRC-M 10762T = CECT 8338T).
