Abstract: Self-determined Participation in Geriatric Care Facilities: The Importance of Organizational Structures and the Participation-promoting Cooperation of the Professions
Furthering social participation of elderly people is a central topic of current politics aiming to guarantee the provision of care as well as participation rights of older persons according to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Not only at home, but also in nursing homes a life as self-determined as possible should be enabled. That is why processes in nursing homes come into focus where requirements of the institutional context and individual needs have to be reconciled. This contribution presents results of a large-scale empirical study on the issue of self-determined participation of elderly persons in nursery homes. It highlights the importance of organizational developments as well as the cooperation between professions.
