Accurate maps of the wildland–urban interface (WUI) are critical for the development of effective land management policies, conducting risk assessments, and the mitigation of wildfire risk. Most WUI maps identify areas at risk from wildfire by overlaying coarse-scale housing data with land cover or vegetation data. However, it is unclear how well the current WUI mapping methods capture the patterns of building loss. We quantified the building loss in WUI disasters, and then compared how well census-based and point-based WUI maps captured the building loss. We examined the building loss in both WUI and non-WUI land-use types, and in relation to the core components of the United States Federal Register WUI definition: housing density, vegetation cover, and proximity to large patches of wildland vegetation. We used building location data from 70 large fires in the conterminous United States, which cumulatively destroyed 54,000 buildings from 2000 through to 2018. We found that: (1) 86% and 97% of the building loss occurred in areas designated as WUI using the census-based and point-based methods, respectively; (2) 95% and 100% of all of the losses occurred within 100 m and 850 m of wildland vegetation, respectively; and (3) WUI components were the most predictive of building loss when measured at fine scales.

Merging is one of the most critical scenarios that can be found in road transport. In this maneuver, the driver is subjected to a high mental load due to the large amount of information he handles, while making decisions becomes a crucial issue for their safety and those in adjacent vehicles. In previous works, it was studied how the merging maneuver affected the cognitive load required for driving by means of an eye tracking system, justifying the proposal of a driver assistance system for the merging maneuver on highways. This paper presents a merging assistance system based on communications between vehicles, which allows vehicles to share internal variables of position and speed and is implemented on a mobile device located inside the vehicle. The system algorithm decides where and when the vehicle can start the merging maneuver in safe conditions and provides the appropriate information to the driver. Parameters and driving simulator tests are used for the interface definition to develop the less intrusive and demanding one. Afterward, the system prototype was installed in a real passenger car and tests in real scenarios were conducted with several drivers to assess usability and mental load. Comparisons among alternative solutions are shown and effectiveness is assessed.

Kompleksitas Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi bagaimana penerapan User Interface Definition Language (UIDL) terhadap User Interface Management System (UIMS).  Hasil penelitian ini berupa User Interface definition Language terhadap User Interface Management System yang bisa dimanfaatkan untuk sistem control serta sistem monitoring bel rumah cluster secara manual maupun secara otomatis menggunakan sensor. User Interface tersebut sistem komunikasinya memanfaatkan internet dan OpenHAB. Bel dapat ON/OFF secara otomatis sesuai dengan perintah dari aplikasi User Interface android tersebut.  Nilai terendah analisis kebergunaan adalah 4,1 terkait dengan aplikasi tombol kontrol bel dapat diklik dengan mudah dan tertinggi 4,70 terkait dengan bahasanya mudah dipahami. Sedangkan rata-rata kebergunaannya 4,59. Dengan hasil tersebut maka penerapan User Interface Definition Language terhadap User Interface Management System dapat dengan mudah digunakan dan dipahami oleh user.
