Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) antenna tracking system is an electromechanical component designed to track and steer the signal beams from the ground control station (GCS) to the airborne platform for optimum signal alignment. In a tracking system, an antenna continuously tracks a moving target and records their position. A UAV tracking antenna system is susceptible to signal loss if omnidirectional antenna is deployed as the preferred design. Therefore, to achieve longer UAV distance communication, there is a need for directional high gain antenna. From design principle, directional antennas are known to focus their signal energy in a particular direction viewed from their radiation pattern which is concentrated in a particular azimuth direction. Unfortunately, a directional antenna is limited by angle, thus, it must always be directed to the target. The other limitation of a UAV mechanical beam steering system is that the system is expensive to maintain and with low reliability. To solve this problem, we are proposing the use of MIMO technology as a readily available technology for UAV beyond line of sight technology. Although UAV antenna tracking is domiciled in the mechanical beam steering arrangement, this study shows that this native technology could be usurped by MIMO beam forming.

According to the basic structure and working principle of the excitation signal sensors of a diesel engine electronic control unit (ECU), a segmentation model of an ECU excitation signal based on characteristic parameters (ESCP-SM) is proposed. In the ESCP-SM, the ECU excitation signal is divided into several parts, and each part has its characteristic parameters model. By using the same global parameters and strictly controlling each part’s proportional parameters, the ESCP-SM can achieve signal alignment and dynamic frequency modulation. Based on the simulation experiment, spectrum analysis proves that this modeling method ensures that the original signal’s effective information is not lost. Pearson similarity analysis shows that the similarity between the simulation signal and practical signal reaches 74%, exhibiting strong correlation. In addition, we set up a physical testing environment. ESCP-SM is realized based on virtual instrument technology, and provides excitation signals for a Komatsu 8 ECU. By modifying the parameter configuration, the ECU can drive the injector to work correctly.

The dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm is widely used in pattern matching and sequence alignment tasks, including speech recognition and time series clustering. However, DTW algorithms perform poorly when aligning sequences of uneven sampling frequencies. This makes it difficult to apply DTW to practical problems, such as aligning signals that are recorded simultaneously by sensors with different, uneven, and dynamic sampling frequencies. As multi-modal sensing technologies become increasingly popular, it is necessary to develop methods for high quality alignment of such signals. Here we propose a DTW algorithm called EventDTW which uses information propagated from defined events as basis for path matching and hence sequence alignment. We have developed two metrics, the error rate (ER) and the singularity score (SS), to define and evaluate alignment quality and to enable comparison of performance across DTW algorithms. We demonstrate the utility of these metrics on 84 publicly-available signals in addition to our own multi-modal biomedical signals. EventDTW outperformed existing DTW algorithms for optimal alignment of signals with different sampling frequencies in 37% of artificial signal alignment tasks and 76% of real-world signal alignment tasks.
