AbstractMathematically formulating nanochannel flows is challenging. Here, the values of the characteristic parameters were extracted from molecular dynamics simulation (MDS), and directly input to the closed-form explicit flow factor approach model (FFAM) for nanochannel flows. By this way, the physical nature of the simulated system in FFAM is the same with that in MDS. Two nano slit channel heights respectively with two different liquid-channel wall interactions were addressed. The flow velocity profiles across the channel height respectively calculated from MDS and FFAM were compared. By introducing the equivalent value $${{\Delta_{im} } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\Delta_{im} } D}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} D}$$ Δ im / D , FFAM fairly agrees with MDS for all the cases. The study values FFAM in simulating nanochannel flows.

AbstractHerein, we report the theoretical investigation on the photonic nanojets (PNJs) of single dielectric microspheres illuminated by focused broadband radiation (polychromatic light) from a Halogen lamp, supercontinuum source, light-emitting diode, and Hg arc lamp. The role of incident beam waist, refractive index of the surrounding medium, and radius of the microsphere on the characteristic parameters such as the electric field intensity enhancement, effective width, and length of the PNJ is studied. Interestingly, the characteristic parameters of the PNJs of solid microspheres obtained for the above-mentioned broadband radiation sources are found close to those observed for the focused monochromatic radiation of wavelengths which are near to the central wavelengths of the sources. Moreover, the characteristic parameters of PNJs of the core–shell microspheres of different thicknesses (t) illuminated by polychromatic radiation from most commonly used sources such as Halogen and Hg arc lamps are studied. For each t value, a suitable wavelength of monochromatic radiation has been found to generate the PNJ with characteristic parameters which are close to those obtained in the case of polychromatic radiation. We believe that the analytical theory and the theoretical simulations reported here would be useful for researchers who work in the fields such as PNJ assisted photoacoustic spectroscopy, white light nanoscopy, low-coherence phase-shifting interference microscopy, and Mirau interferometry.

Abstract Surface wear is one of the major causes of damage to wire ropes in multi-layer winding systems. This damage leads to performance degradation and affects the service safety of wire rope. To reveal the wear evolution and the performance degradation of wire rope in service, the correlations between the wear characteristic parameters and the residual strength were investigated. The results show that the variation in the wear parameters is affected by the wear distribution and the structure of the wire rope. The main wear mechanisms between wire ropes are adhesion wear and abrasive wear. Different wear parameters should be combined to evaluate the wear state of the wire rope. The tensile temperature rise could accurately reflect the wear evolution of the in-service wire rope under the condition of a large wear degree. The negative correlation between the residual strength and the wear area of the damaged rope samples is the strongest.

Due to the complex microscope pore structure of shale, large-scale hydraulic fracturing is required to achieve effective development, resulting in a very complicated fracturing fluid flowback characteristics. The flowback volume is time-dependent, whereas other relevant parameters, such as the permeability, porosity, and fracture half-length, are static. Thus, it is very difficult to build an end-to-end model to predict the time-dependent flowback curves using static parameters from a machine learning perspective. In order to simplify the time-dependent flowback curve into simple parameters and serve as the target parameter of big data analysis and flowback influencing factor analysis, this paper abstracted the flowback curve into two characteristic parameters, the daily flowback volume coefficient and the flowback decreasing coefficient, based on the analytical solution of the seepage equation of multistage fractured horizontal Wells. Taking the dynamic flowback data of 214 shale gas horizontal wells in Weiyuan shale gas block as a study case, the characteristic parameters of the flowback curves were obtained by exponential curve fittings. The analysis results showed that there is a positive correlation between the characteristic parameters which present the characteristics of right-skewed distribution. The calculation formula of the characteristic flowback coefficient representing the flowback potential was established. The correlations between characteristic flowback coefficient and geological and engineering parameters of 214 horizontal wells were studied by spearman correlation coefficient analysis method. The results showed that the characteristic flowback coefficient has a negative correlation with the thickness × drilling length of the high-quality reservoir, the fracturing stage interval, the number of fracturing stages, and the brittle minerals content. Through the method established in this paper, the shale gas flowback curve containing complex flow mechanism can be abstracted into simple characteristic parameters and characteristic coefficients, and the relationship between static data and dynamic data is established, which can help to establish a machine learning method for predicting the flowback curve of shale gas horizontal wells.

In this study, we developed an analytical model of slot-loaded rectangular microstrip patch antennas based on the simulation results by varying slot parameters. The dominant resonant frequency predicted by such a model is in strong agreement with the experimental results measured at several locations of slot-loaded rectangular microstrip patch antennas. The model enables a reliable and quick computation of the resonant frequency, which generally follows a harmonic behavior that nearly resembles the resonant frequency of a microstrip antenna without a slot, which can be related to a small change in the impedance caused by the slot position. Results showed a good agreement between simulations and measurements for all the slot positions. Mathematical analytic functions to describe the changes in specific characteristic parameters of the slot-loaded rectangular microstrip patch antennas are also included.
