Villages around Kerinci Seblat National Park (Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat, TNKS) have experienced population pressure. This condition which if not addressed immediately will encourage the community around the TNKS to enter and encroach the forest to meet their household needs. This is getting worse along with the finding that the community around TNKS also does not have many alternative sources of income. For this reason, designing strategies for optimizing household economic to lessen population pressures are noteworthy. Focus group discussion (FGD) and analysis hierarchy process (AHP) was applied to design and to determine development strategy for household economic empowerment and twenty-five key informants including fifteen farmer households were interviewed. The AHP results conclude that the production aspect is the most important that needs to be given priority in the development of plantation production. This conclusion is based on its highest relative priorities (weights), i.e., 0.298. Of the three programs identified and using weight result of AHP, community seed assistance is the most important program in the development of plantation production (weight of 0.494). The seed assistance program is the most important compared to providing soft loans (weight of 0.29) and expanding to production inputs accessibility (weight of 0.216). Meanwhile, human resource development aspects are the most attractive strategy for food crop production development, especially rice, with a weight of 0.325. Aspects of human resource development are more focused on improving farmer knowledge in cultivation than marketing and post-harvest handling aspects. Optimization of pekarangan resources is directed to the development of the chicken farm (weight = 0.274) focused on improving the production aspect (weight = 0.328). Among three priority programs, day-old chicken assistance (weight = 0.512) is more needed than access to soft loans (weight = 0.242) and feed programs (weight = 0.246).

The group in the Kerinci Seblat National Park area is the main watershed, namely the Batanghari watershed, Musi watershed and the western coastal watershed, the watershed is vital to fulfilling the water needs of the lives and lives of millions of people living in the area . The potential of existing water in the forest area can be used to drive the electricity generation system. Existing water potential is one of the primary energy that can be used as renewable energy. Electric energy is already a primary need for modern Indonesian society today. This situation is characterized by the community's dependence on electrical energy in carrying out activities of daily life, both at home, at the office, in hotels and in industrial processes, all of which rely heavily on electrical energy.Indonesia is blessed with primary energy resources thar are very potential to build new and renewable energy-based power plants such us nuclear, geothermal power, hydropower, niomass, wind power, solar power and ocean wave energythat have notbeen optimall utilized.Consideration of energy conservation and the environment require us to immediately be able to ultilize renewable energy – which is easily available and more environmentallt friendly than fossil energy.Alternative energy development is absolutely necessary, therefore it is necessary to survey river potential, especially in the Kerinci Sebelat National Park area (TNKS) to meet the electricity needs of the community. With the availability of these water resources, it can be developed into a Micro Power Plant or Mini Hydro. The purpose of this primary energy utilization is to reduce our dependence on fossil fuel energy use whose availability is starting to worry. Several alternative energy sources that are abundant in Indonesia can be utilized without having to substitute the existing conventional energy values. It is hoped that through the use of new and renewable energy can slowly reduce the priority of using fossil fuel-based energy to further replace its role as a counterweight. The use of conventional energy continues to be used, not diverted and even eliminated, but slowly led to changes in the priority scale of its supply needs in remote areas. The time for modern/big cities to change the paradigm to make new and renewabable energy a new “lifestyle”, given that for the sake of the environment in its role to reduce CO2 esmissions.
