AbstractWe show that the André motive of a hyper-Kähler variety X over a field $$K \subset {\mathbb {C}}$$ K ⊂ C with $$b_2(X)>6$$ b 2 ( X ) > 6 is governed by its component in degree 2. More precisely, we prove that if $$X_1$$ X 1 and $$X_2$$ X 2 are deformation equivalent hyper-Kähler varieties with $$b_2(X_i)>6$$ b 2 ( X i ) > 6 and if there exists a Hodge isometry $$f:H^2(X_1,{\mathbb {Q}})\rightarrow H^2(X_2,{\mathbb {Q}})$$ f : H 2 ( X 1 , Q ) → H 2 ( X 2 , Q ) , then the André motives of $$X_1$$ X 1 and $$X_2$$ X 2 are isomorphic after a finite extension of K, up to an additional technical assumption in presence of non-trivial odd cohomology. As a consequence, the Galois representations on the étale cohomology of $$X_1$$ X 1 and $$X_2$$ X 2 are isomorphic as well. We prove a similar result for varieties over a finite field which can be lifted to hyper-Kähler varieties for which the Mumford–Tate conjecture is true.

Abstract We compare the Kummer flat (resp., Kummer étale) cohomology with the flat (resp., étale) cohomology with coefficients in smooth commutative group schemes, finite flat group schemes, and Kato’s logarithmic multiplicative group. We are particularly interested in the case of algebraic tori in the Kummer flat topology. We also make some computations for certain special cases of the base log scheme.

AbstractWe show that in positive characteristic special loci of deformation spaces of rank one $$\ell $$ ℓ -adic local systems are quasi-linear. From this we deduce the Hard Lefschetz theorem for rank one $$\ell $$ ℓ -adic local systems and a generic vanishing theorem.

Abstract Assume that we have a fibration of smooth projective varieties X → S over a surface S such that X is of dimension four and that the geometric generic fiber has finite-dimensional motive and the first étale cohomology of the geometric generic fiber with respect to ℚ l coefficients is zero and the second étale cohomology is spanned by divisors. We prove that then A 3(X), the group of codimension three algebraically trivial cycles modulo rational equivalence, is dominated by finitely many copies of A 0(S); this means that there exist finitely many correspondences Γi on S × X such that Σ i Γi is surjective from A 2(S) to A 3(X).

We discuss some general properties of $\mathrm {TR}$ and its $K(1)$ -localization. We prove that after $K(1)$ -localization, $\mathrm {TR}$ of $H\mathbb {Z}$ -algebras is a truncating invariant in the Land–Tamme sense, and deduce $h$ -descent results. We show that for regular rings in mixed characteristic, $\mathrm {TR}$ is asymptotically $K(1)$ -local, extending results of Hesselholt and Madsen. As an application of these methods and recent advances in the theory of cyclotomic spectra, we construct an analog of Thomason's spectral sequence relating $K(1)$ -local $K$ -theory and étale cohomology for $K(1)$ -local $\mathrm {TR}$ .
