Abstract Yukawa-type interactions between heavy Dirac fermions and a scalar field are a common ingredient in various extensions of the Standard Model. Despite of that, the non-relativistic limit of the scalar Yukawa theory has not yet been studied in full generality in a rigorous and model-independent way. In this paper we intend to fill this gap by initiating a series of investigations that make use of modern effective field theory (EFT) techniques. In particular, we aim at constructing suitable non-relativistic and potential non-relativistic EFTs of Yukawa interactions (denoted as NRY and pNRY respectively) in close analogy to the well known and phenomenologically successful non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) and potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD). The phenomenological motivation for our study lies in the possibility to explain the existing cosmological observations by introducing heavy fermionic dark matter particles that interact with each other by exchanging a light scalar mediator. A systematic study of this compelling scenario in the framework of non-relativistic EFTs (NREFTs) constitutes the main novelty of our approach as compared to the existing studies.

Abstract We use Lightcone Conformal Truncation to analyze the RG flow of the two-dimensional supersymmetric Gross-Neveu-Yukawa theory, i.e. the theory of a real scalar superfield with a ℤ2-symmetric cubic superpotential, aka the 2d Wess-Zumino model. The theory depends on a single dimensionless coupling $$ \overline{g} $$ g ¯ , and is expected to have a critical point at a tuned value $$ {\overline{g}}_{\ast } $$ g ¯ ∗ where it flows in the IR to the Tricritical Ising Model (TIM); the theory spontaneously breaks the ℤ2 symmetry on one side of this phase transition, and breaks SUSY on the other side. We calculate the spectrum of energies as a function of $$ \overline{g} $$ g ¯ and see the gap close as the critical point is approached, and numerically read off the critical exponent ν in TIM. Beyond the critical point, the gap remains nearly zero, in agreement with the expectation of a massless Goldstino. We also study spectral functions of local operators on both sides of the phase transition and compare to analytic predictions where possible. In particular, we use the Zamolodchikov C-function to map the entire phase diagram of the theory. Crucial to this analysis is the fact that our truncation is able to preserve supersymmetry sufficiently to avoid any additional fine tuning.

Abstract We consider two-dimensional Yukawa theory in the scalar wave background ϕ(t − x). If one takes as initial state in such a background the scalar vacuum corresponding to ϕ = 0, then loop corrections to a certain part of the Keldysh propagator, corresponding to the anomalous expectation value, grow with time. That is a signal to the fact that under the kick of the ϕ(t − x) wave the scalar field rolls down the effective potential from the ϕ = 0 position to the proper ground state. We show the evidence supporting these observations.

We considered the two-dimensional theoretical field model of interaction of scalar and fermion fields with the Higgs potential. Contribution of instanton effects to total fermion propagator is calculated. Mass correction to the propagator in the presence of an instanton field is determined. The obtained results can be interpreted as confinement.
