Subaponeurotic fluid collection is an infrequent cause of scalp swelling in infants. We report a 10-week-old male who had a scalp swelling for five days without any recent history of head injury. There was a soft, mobile, non-tender, transilluminating, fluctuant swelling over posterior parieto-occipital area and it was not limited by suture lines. Cranial ultrasonography showed a subaponeurotic collection at the posterior parieto-occipital area without definite communication with the intracranial space or the brain parenchyma. This infant was treated conservatively. The swelling resolved spontaneously after 4 weeks. The lack of awareness of some doctors in the Emergency Department about this condition may lead to unnecessary investigations, ward admission and intervention. It is hoped that this case report will provide emergency health care professionals the confidence to make accurate diagnosis and treat patient with subaponeurotic fluid collection optimally.

Aim: Oral cancer is one of the health problems that results in high mortality in the community. It is known that, when diagnosed in the later stages (3 or 4), the disease is difficult to treat. Patient education on heredity and early diagnoses are critical for the successful treatment of oral cancer. This study aimed to evaluate Turkish texts about oral cancers found online in terms of their readability and content. Methodology: The first 100 websites returned from a Google search using the keywords "Ağız kanseri" (“oral cancer,” in Turkish) were examined. The patient information texts obtained were evaluated according to the Ateşman Readability Index. Their contents were also evaluated in terms of whether or not they provided sufficient information about the disease. Results: It was understood that the texts examined in the study were of medium difficulty according to the Ateşman Readability Index (mean 61.73± 11.81). The content of the information on the websites examined in the study was deemed sufficient and useful. Most of the websites examined were those of private clinics and hospitals. Conclusion: The results of the study indicated that the patient information texts found on Turkish websites were of medium reading difficulty. Although they are sufficient in terms of content, if they are not understood by the patients, their intended effects on readers will not be seen.   How to cite this article: Kaya DI. Psoriasis patients with comorbid depression represent a common therapeutic challenge for dermatologists. Depressed patients often require the practicing dermatologist to go outside of their comfort zone, and the FDA’s labeling of medications such as brodalumab have further complicated an already difficult-to-treat patient population. A multi-disciplinary work-group consisting of a board-certified psychiatrist, a licensed clinical psychologist, and multiple dermatologists was convened to formulate practical recommendations for the evaluation and treatment of this at-risk population. How to broach the subject of depression and when to refer patients for formal evaluation were discussed. The expert panel also produced a consensus statement regarding the use of brodalumab in patients with both psoriasis and depression.

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures have been undertaken for a number of years. It is fair to say that, in this time, there has been a notable difference in the way that treatment plans are approached by practitioners. This is most prevalent in more recent years, when the decision to treat patient concerns in isolation has moved to a holistic, full-face approach, taking into account not only the key concern that has brought the patient to a clinic, but other significant issues that may require carefully addressing, such as overall skin health and quality.

During surgery the pulse oximeter device provides information about a patient’s oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate via visual and auditory displays. An audible tone is emitted after every detected pulse (indicating heart rate), and the pitch of the tone is mapped to SpO2. However, clinicians cannot reliably judge SpO2 using only the current auditory display. In a series of three studies, we compared auditory displays based on current pulse oximeters with displays designed to provide more information about SpO2 levels using additional acoustic properties. Results from the first two laboratory studies show that the new auditory displays support better identification of specified ranges of SpO2, and better detection of when saturation transitions a critically relevant threshold. The analysis of a third study in a high-fidelity simulator is currently under way. An auditory display that provides more information about SpO2 levels and when SpO2 changes from one range to another may be useful for clinicians when they are engaged in other visually demanding tasks but have to detect and treat patient deterioration, often in time-pressured and stressful situations.
