There are listed Eminescu's qualities as a scientist: curiosity, the quality of expressing amazement, thirst for knowing, thirst for absolute, desire to seek the ultimate essences, passion for reading, competence, passion to broaden his knowledge horizon and to be up to date with specialized literature, documentation from truthful sources, call to science, constant passion for research, scientific character of his work, spirit of observation, the innate ability to contemplate and tempt thw nature, rich imagination, intelligence, sharpness of mind, native intuition and wisdom, strong memory, independence and freedom of thought, the meditative, dreamy,and romantic nature.

The article is a brief biographical presentation of the Italian astronomer Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli (1835-1910) in the context of the so-called "Martian canals", "discovered" by the astronomer in 1877.

In relation with the 60th anniversary of the first flight of humans to the space, a retrospective is presented in this paper concerning the development of spatial technologies, starting from the first theoretical concepts of the rocket science and ending with the today's projects of launching humans to other planets. In particular, the competition between the USA and USSR for the first space flight and the human flight to the Moon are analyzed. The technical characteristics of rockets for placing payloads on the low earth orbit and beyond as well as those of the rocket-spaceship systems are discussed.

Matila Ghyka - naval officer, engineer, mathematician, diplomat, but known as the author of studies on the golden number and rhythm, as well as his memoirs published in French and English. Today he is considered an old-fashioned scholar, with availability for access to ancient culture, from Pythagoras to the scientific knowledge of his life, from the theory of relativity and knowledge of the atom, to Buddhist and Taoist theories, all integrated. in the humanist effort for a better, more just world, without wars and discrimination.

In the paper, some optomechanical systems are described and advantages of their use are analysed. It is examined a laser-pumped artificial atom placed on the nanomechanical rod in a cavity. Both the advantage of using such systems and quantum correlations and quantum cooling phenomena are discussed.
