Abstract The relative resistance of various materials and alloys to corrosion by laboratory slags was studied. The materials of interest were subjected to three selected laboratory slags: vanadium slag formed by mixing 70 percent V2O5 and 30 percent Na2SO4, non sulfated vanadium slag formed by mixing 79 percent V2O5 and 21 percent NaVO3, and a sulfate-chloride nonvanadium slag formed from 90 percent Na2SO4 and 10 percent NaCl. Materials showing greatest corrosion resistance to these slags were Hastelloy D, 100 Cr, 50 Cr-50Ni, and 25 Cr-5 Al-bal Fe. Other materials of greater utility showing good resistance were 60 Cr-40 Ni, 30 Cr-30 Ni-40 Co, 14 Cr-14 Mn-bal Fe, and Haynes-Stellite 31. 4.2.3

The mechanism of refractory material corrosion was analyzed. The laboratory amorphous alloy smelting of the mother prefabricated crucible, reaction process is basically to crucible refractory material of blast furnace slag corrosion, melt corrosion is small. Generally smelting amorphous mother alloy was a difficult thing, and it shown that the basicity was better around 1.0. Compared with quartz refractory, it is good to choose the silicon carbide refractory materials, while smelting amorphous alloy.

The corrosion behavior of BF slag to sialon bonded corundum refractories using reaction nitriding technology at 1500°C was investigated by crucible test method. The results show that the reaction products of slag corrosion are anorthite, magnalium-spinel and glass phases. The corundum grains can react with MgO in the slag to produce magnalium-spinel, accompanying by expansion and liquating stepwise by slag. Erosion mechanism is oxidation-erosion-dissolving. This study is very necessary and useful to improve the property of BF slag resistance and to yield better overall properties of sialon bonded corundum refractories.
