Health leaders in Canada face a myriad of challenges with healthcare philanthropy—not just the practical question of how to be successful but also ethical questions. Is fundraising in partnership with companies that are implicated in the so-called lifestyle diseases appropriate? When does appropriate recognition for donors or volunteers cross the line into facilitating preferential access to care? Ethical decision-making in health philanthropy considers appropriate recognition or partnership in donor relations in the context of the public good with which healthcare institutions are entrusted and the fiduciary responsibilities of hospitals and clinicians to patients.

Subject Zimbabwe economic outlook. Significance On November 26 Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa presented the 2016 budget articulating the government's IMF-backed plan to clear the backlog of external debt arrears to international creditors. The aim is to normalise relations with Western donors after 15 years of isolation. The government faces a deepening employment crisis, an unfunded development plan and deflationary risks. Impacts The Labour Amendment Bill adopted in August will raise labour costs and discourage job creation. Some deals signed during Xi's visit such as funding for fibre optic broadband may improve long-term competitiveness. However, others such as an agreement for a new Chinese-built parliament will add to the debt load.

Significance Mutharika and the DPP are facing a strengthened opposition front, with former President Joyce Banda (2012-14) and her People’s Party (PP) formally entering into an alliance with the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and their leader Lazarus Chekwera. The newer United Transformation Movement (UTM), led by Vice-President Saulos Chilima, is also set to be competitive. Impacts Despite cases of intimidation and politically related violence, the elections are likely to be largely peaceful. Post-poll revelations of more government overspends could see a further deterioration in donor relations. A close result in either the presidential or legislative polls will likely result in fraud accusations by the losing candidate or party. The rollout of a contentious land reform bill could cost the government support at the polls.
