The need to remotely control home appliances is an important aspect of home automation and is now receiving lot of attentions in the literature. The works so far are still at a development level making further research necessary. This article presents a framework for chatbot-controlled home appliance control system and was implemented by programming a Raspberry Pi using the Python language while the chatbot server was also implemented using a Node.js on JavaScript. The Raspberry Pi was connected to the chatbot server via Wi-Fi using a websockets protocol. The chatbot server is linked to Facebook Messenger using the Messenger Application Protocol Interface. Messages received at the chatbot server are analyzed with RasaNLU to classify the user's intention and extract necessary information which are sent over websocket to the connected Raspberry pi. The system was evaluated using control precision and percentage correct classification with both producing a significant level of acceptance. This work produced a Facebook Messenger chatbot-based framework capable of controlling Home Appliances remotely.

<span lang="EN-AU">Smart home control system can be integrated into an existing home appliances to reduce the need for human intervention, increase security and energy efficiency. However, it is still an open problem due to difficulties such as network distance, signal interference, not user friendly, increased cost and power consumption. This paper reviews various topics on smart home technologies including control system, smart home network, smart home appliance and sensor technologies for smart home. In this research, the proposed prototype of home automation allows users to remotely switch on or off any household appliance based on Internet of Things (IoT) with the enhancement of solar charger. The smartphone and/or tablet replaces the manual use of personal computer without the need for high additional cost. This prototype uses four types of sensors i.e. PIR sensor, temperature sensor, ultrasonic sensor and smoke gas sensor for automatic environmental control and intrusion detection.</span>

This paper mainly focuses on the controlling of home appliances remotely and providing security when the user is away from the place. The system is SMS based and uses wireless technology to revolutionize the standards of living. This system provides ideal solution to the problems faced by home owners in daily life. The system is wireless therefore more adaptable and cost-effective. The HACS system provides security against intrusion as well as automates various home appliances using SMS. The system uses GSM technology thus providing ubiquitous access to the system for security and automated appliance control.
