In diesem Beitrag wird ein neuer Ansatz zum Erstellen von Maschinenprogrammen zur mikrofrästechnischen Oberflächenstrukturierung vorgestellt und die Anwendung der Prozesskette für ein komplexes, industrielles Verzahnungswerkzeug beschrieben. Durch die Reduzierung des Berechnungsaufwandes in der CAD/CAM (Computer-aided Design & Manufacturing)-Umgebung können die Limitierungen konventioneller Softwarelösungen umgangen und Bearbeitungsprogramme für komplexe Strukturierungsaufgaben effizient erstellt werden.   A new method for generating machine programs for micromilling surface structuring is presented, and the application of the process chain to a complex, industrial gearing die is described. By reducing the computational effort in the CAD/CAM (Computer-aided Design & Manufacturing) environment, the problems of conventional software solutions can be avoided and complex machining programs can be created.

Trimmed surfaces have been widely used in complicated product design in mechanical engineering especially in complex free form surface models of CAD/CAM/CAE. Focusing on the deficiencies of the algorithms available in published literatures when handling some intricate situations, this paper proposes a more general and efficient algorithm of trimmed surface rendering (ATSR). The ATSR is a general algorithm that can deal with most intricate situations, which frequently occur in practical engineering that no special attention has been paid to in references at hand, as well as common situations. Furthermore, this paper presents a new algorithm for the nodes of polygon connecting into elements (ANCE). The ANCE can handle most tricky polygons appearing in the process of rendering and achieve successful triangulation for the to-be-rendered surface. Preferable results are obtained in the case studies, which indicate that the algorithms (ATSR and ANCE) are efficient and effective in handling complicated as well as common trimmed surface models in real engineering industry.

Reflection curves on surfaces are important tools for free-form surface interrogation. They are essential for industrial 3D CAD/CAM systems and for rendering purposes. In this note, new approaches regarding the computation and rendering of reflection curves on surfaces are introduced. These approaches are designed to take the advantage of the graphics libraries of recent releases of commercial systems such as the OpenInventor toolkit (developed by Silicon Graphics) or Matlab (developed by The Math Works). A new relation between reflection curves and contour curves is derived; this theoretical result is used for a straightforward Matlab implementation of reflection curves. A new type of reflection curves is also generated using the OpenInventor texture and environment mapping implementations. This allows the computation, rendering, and animation of reflection curves at interactive rates, which makes it particularly useful for industrial applications.

This paper has analyzed key techniques in foam mold development for Lost Foam Casting for different types of casting, which are complex box, pipe faucet junction ,wear-resisting and refractory alloy steel casting, Focused on complex castings with free-form surface, key points during whole technical route, which includes three-dimensional modeling, foamed pattern design, mold design and CNC program, have been discussed by utilizing modeling & manufacturing module on Unigraphics. Because of its perfect free-form surface functions and plentiful toolpath operations in CNC programming, Foam mold of complex casting with free-form surface has been designed, manufactured and assembled successfully for LFC, Qualified foamed pattern of vortical shell has been produced successfully. Several effective methods and experiences have been achieved by utilizing CAD/CAM technology.

Abstract This study aimed to improve the efficiency of free-form surface machining by using a five-axis controlled machine tool and a barrel tool. The barrel tool has cutting edges, with curvature smaller than the radius, increasing the pick feed width compared with a conventional ball end mill of the same tool radius. As a result, the machining efficiency can be improved; however, the cost of the barrel tool is high and difficult to reground. In this study, a method to obtain the cutting points that make the cusp height below the target value is proposed. Moreover, a method to improve the tool life by continuously and uniformly changing the contact point on the cutting edge is proposed. The usefulness of the developed method is confirmed through machining simulations.
