In conclusion, the afterlife and overall importance of the Romantic mad poet as a token of Romanticism’s place in the dual revolutions of political and industrial modernity is reassessed. Images of the convergence of mind and machinery in both imaginative literature and early psychiatric writing are discussed. The main arguments of the book about how the Romantic mad poet emerged and was popularized in the nineteenth century are concluded and summarized, and a series of broader arguments about why the Romantic mad poet became so popular are considered, drawing especially on political and sociological accounts of the idea of ‘genius’.

The goal of this graduating paper is to know how the unconsciousness minds and habits linking to each other. It discusses the mind that triggers characters behavior in the Charlie and Chocolate Factory. The writer focuses on the children who get the golden tickets and the owner of the Chocolate Factory (Mr. Willy Wonka).According to Willbur S Scott with his Psychoanalysis Theory on Fictitious Characters, he stated that we can look further about the pattern which motivates the character to express something. It helps the present writer to analyze deeper, by identifying the showed which were done by the children in Roald Dahl’s Charlie and Chocolate Factory.After carying out the research, it shows that their (the five lucky children and Mr. Willy Wonka) subconscious mind triggers bad action which expelled the children from the chocolate factory and good action which made Charlie the champion.

This chapter aims to develop a new analysis formula and a new language of literary school education/teaching literature, especially the language of reading engagement functionalized in terms of emotional, social, and cultural needs that literature is capable of satisfying. This applies also to young readers. The starting point is the specificity of emotional and sensory reception of literary narration (e.g. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by R. Dahl) in which vivid, multisensory mental imagery absorbs/engages many readers (also on the principle of intersubjective cooperation). Discussion in this chapter is based on three issues: transactional theory of reading response (with aesthetic and efferent reading); individual, personal, and private interpretations; and analysis of types of affect in reception. It also proposes a description of the process of pupils' cognitive activities, recognize mental images, understanding metaphors, and express emotions.

Chapter 5 focuses on technicities of African American vanguardists, including Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Bennett, Ralph Ellison and Amiri Baraka. These writers joined the civil rights lawyer and writer Pauli Murray in recognising illegal rail travel and other appropriations of infrastructure as signifyin(g) spatial practices. Building on research by sociologists, historians of technology and literary critics, the chapter uses a techno-bathetic framework to explore how railroads became signifyin(g) machines for the everyday technicities of black life throughout the twentieth century. The long-running crises sparked by the Scottsboro trials encouraged African American avant-gardes to formulate a vernacular, counter-servile technicity that served as a hinge between rhetorical and spatial practice. When Ellison claimed that ‘[o]ur technology was vernacular’, the shared valences he identifies between language, technology and strategies of adaptation and appropriation elides closely with Rayvon Fouché’s conception of ‘black vernacular technological creativity’ and Henry Louis Gates, Jr’s definition of motivated signifyin(g). African American vanguardists dragged the invisible and over-determined rail networks, and the spaces that framed them, back into plain sight, and made them the targets of sustained attack. The chapter argues that by doing so, these writers practiced a nuanced vernacular technicity articulated across the longue durée of industrial modernity.

German silent cinema is famous for its unconventional aesthetics and film-technological innovations. These characteristics were the result of efforts to reconcile the new medium’s automatic reproductions of physical reality with idealist conceptions of art. Special effects played a crucial role in this endeavour. They afforded creative experiments with the cinematic apparatus and inspired filmmakers to convey ideas and emotions. Special effects embodied the “techno-romantic” project of construing technology as a means for transcending material reality. This common response to industrial modernity profoundly shaped German silent film culture. The techno-romantic paradigm formed the basis of one of the most creative periods in film history and proved instrumental in the evolution of cinematic expressivity and film art.
